What the hell? Go read his monthly newsletter, it is full of things that he's excited about and that MIGHT improve security. He gives praise where praise is due, and he points out flaws that are easily apparrant to a security expert that non-experts may overlook.
Schneier is all about incremental steps and small improvements, with security being a multi-teired model (as demonstrated in his books).
It sounds like a perfect project for students in the school who study IT/programming. A good IT teacher should have no problems guiding a group of students through the process.
Amen to that. I'm amazed at how much tax the Australian government gives up by not legalising (and then taxing and regulating quality, like it does with tabacco and alcohol).
The stats system of Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Nintendo Gamecube was one of the reasons I was so impressed with the game (and so I bought it and a gamecube).
Once you've implemented a decent physics/game engine, stats are just a matter of implementation, it is not a large task in itself to gather the data, it's more how you interpret the data you've gathered.
but these are the same guys running the anti-greens ads on Australian TV at the moment. They come across as a bunch of extremist nuts, damn christians.
and: wtf is with bashing the greens party? They're the good guys in this election.
What's the point of posting this as news...? There's so much prior art (Lynx) that this patent will be thrown away as soon as someone challenges it.
The story should be called: USPTO stuffs up again.

Metacreations did something like this years ago...
on
Accelerated PowerPoint?

Does anyone remember Office Advantage from Metacreations? It was back when Metacreations hadn't sold all of its products.
As I recall, it offered a much better engine for rendering powerpoint slides, complete with drop shadows and improved anti-aliasing (bascially the look that Metacreations was famous for in its interfaces). As well as that, it added a heap of new transitions, like pond rippling between slides (I know sounds dicky, but the ripple was done at 25fps, so it looked really nice).
That was the single best thing I could use to make Powerpoint look instantly better.
They say it'll have live monitoring, that they'll hire people to watch a channel 24/7.
I'd love this, I hate that TV channels are pumping up the volume during ads (or turn it down during shows, I'm not sure). I'd sign up $10-12/month easy.
I agree. The user interface and graphics engine that UO uses is terrible. I think it's the major drawback from getting new users into UO. I would, if it didn't look so dog terrible.
I think the Diablos have set a benchmark for how these genre games should look.
Great, so we'll have new value-added MP3-player based landfill. The last thing I want is to have 20 cheap music players from my favourite bands scattered around the appartment.
... a few of my friends (although not me yet) have been using NLP to get motivated, Bandler, Robbins, etc... It is scary shit, I've never seen anything like it, going from laid back/lazy to ultra-motivated, get the most out of every single minute mode. NLP is really worth looking into if you have motivation issues, and there's plenty of audio on the subject floating out there.
I have 2 USB Belkin Nostromos... They've been configured for MAME, ZSNES, Visual Boy Advance, and a bunch of others with no problems.
Half the trick I found was with the emulator configuration. Get your controllers working well, then configure the emulators around them. These controllers work natively under XP, and have excellent drivers for 2K. I don't know about *nix support.
Just because he is older, doesn't mean he is less suited to the role. Let us remember that he isn't REALLY the Terminator. He is just pretending. I am sure as he gets older, pretending is getting easier (gee, I know it is for me).
Okay, before you mod me OT, did anyone else just get a 'Upgrade to XP' spam in their Hotmail a/c from an internal Hotmail source??
This strikes me as a bit dodgy, for all of the anti-spam filtering that MS has put into hotmail over the past year, they can just walk right in and say 'Deliver this XP advertisment to every damn Hotmail account holder'.

It should be noted that the nice backgrounds were all made using a program called Mojoworld by Pandromeda Software ...
It's the most hardcore procedural world generator available.

I RTFA'd :)

I can't wait to see (and help make) some of the games that come out of this. It means good things for the homebrew/hobbyist programmers and artists.

It was "a genetic problem" ... any excercise would have triggered this. Nothing to do with DDR.

The booth was a nVidia booth demoing WoW. The picture in question is actually a camera shot, not a screen capture from in-game.
Carmack is a guy who writes engines, not makes games. If you RTFA, you'll see that Raven is doing Quake IV, not id.

I say bravo for taking on this enormous role

Rant over now.
