I would love it if we could get back on the nuclear energy bandwagon. If stored properly we could elimanate almost all pollution related to the production of energy. And if we can stop bickering over where to store the material we could start moving forward. Please see the following link for more reasons: www.nucleartourist.com
In the future if we can build a space elevator, we can even take nuclear waste into high orbit and then launch it out into the sun.:)
When I read this story I just started laughing my ass off, when i thought about how this could be used/abused. Here is a scenario for you: I am sitting in a strip club with my "moneo" and the stripper does one of her moves where she grabbes/swipes your moneo with deducting some amount. Just use your imagination.:)
I did not think that we were losing anything. There have been software add-ons/pluggins that limit what spam we see. Legislators have taken an active role to limit/penalize spammers. ISPs have taken spam seriously as it costs them both directly and indirectly. I dont see spam as being as much of a problem in the next 2 or 3 years.
We can conquer spam quicker by emailing our representatives our feelings toward spam.

As with all cutting edge technology, this will be popularized by the porn industry. can you imagine what kinda marketing info they could get just off their magazines. like how long you really read their articles:). How much time youve spent on each page, maybe an auditory warning if your on a page for too long.:) Anyways sounds cool. hope we dont get conspiracy theorist coming out of the woodwork saying that this will automatically be put in money to track you.:)
people wanting to make it easier to vote. Voting should be HARD, you should have to pass some sort of obstacle course and a battery of tests. I dont want this country run by a bunch of lazy, a$$, couch potatoes who are ill/unimformed. I have been in this country (USA) for almost 20 years, and have about 2.5 years to get my citizenship and cant stand seeing people who have no business voting, just casting their vote to some liar on tv, because he looks like he cares for your(clinton,et al). ARG!!!!!! While I am venting my frustration over this, how about TEACHING our kids that we live in a REPUBLIC not a democracy. I hate people say "hey we live in a democracy", no you dont. "and to the republic for which it stands"
This use of our cell phones might lead to some serious privacy issues. I dont know if you watched Minority Report. But one interesting aspect of the future in that movie was how pervasive the SYSTEM monitored you (using an iris scan to identify you). Using your cell phone to monitor traffic might seem like a small thing, but it might lead to some serious deteoration of your privacy. Say we have some serious criminal act, and we want to know who might have been near the area, these people could be suspects or witnesses. We could just check who had their cell phones on in the area. This might not seem bad, unless your labeled a "person of interest". I doubt youd like to be under that much scrutiny (sp?)
Ok, this maybe a bit off topic, but i think a majority of/.ers would be extremely suprised at how creative Firefly is. Its funny, refreshing, and the writting has been incredible. Not to mention the great job of the cast.
One of the great twists of this western space show (yes western space show), is that they have incorporated some chinese dialogue and culture. Followers of the show have surmised that 500 years in the future there are 2 competing cultures: chinese and western.
Great sci-fi shows are still out there, they are just hiding in poor time slots in fox's lineup.
I thought ibm was implementing a new plan of getting out of anything hardware related and concentrating in proving "services" (ie the recent purchase of a major company, cant remember its name). Maybe im just confused.
Im planning on sending my isp an email asking them to follow suit. We should also look at the next logical step in this fight against RIAA, which is targeting one or two senators who have/are supporting the actions of RIAA and the DMCA. Maybe then we can be taken seriously.
Ahh, time to bust out with my prOn collection. As every/. reader knows the prOn industry has been at the bleeding edge of technology.:) Im sure some one has an image that can show prior art.

I thought this might help those people who dont want to take the time to calculate the FPS from the earlier article Anandtech did.
