but I would rather have a replica of this space probe in schools/colleges than any number of sports trophies. The amount of hard work and dedication required to do things like this should inspire our youths, instead of their current role models (kobe bryant, et al.)
Getting rid of mc just shows me that seti will more than likely never fullfil its goal of finding intelligent life outside this planet through radio waves (and/or other part of the spectrum). We have just shown that as we advance our knowledge we get rid of old forms of communications for far superior forms.
So its concievable that within 100 years that we will not be using any current communication median, or at a minimum that we encrypt it to almost sound like static (military is/has moving to this).
what we now need are cars that merge onto highways for us. Just like how fighter planes take off without the need of pilot input. I dont think many drivers would go for a car that drives for them, but something that makes merging into fast/dangerous traffic would be greatly appreciated.
was that they did not want many false positives. So they decided on a very high match before a person was flagged. They did not want a "looser" match as that would give them false positives.
The technology is there to get the bad guy, but we might have to put up with getting mistaken for the bad guy from time to time. We need to decide if its worth it.
how at one point africa was a very fertile land. Was it because there was more or less ice at the poles. I cant remember but over a millenium or two wasnt egypt and the surrounding areas (including ethiopia and ethrate) the bread basket of the world? Would the melting of the ice caps help or hurt the countries in africa?
In fact, the quality of the transmission was so good, so much like being there, that Telus engineers added a bit of noise to make the call sound, well, more normal.
How different/irritating was the call that they needed to add the noise. Also does SprintPCS do this too? I would imagine that having no noise in a call would actually be a marketing edge (remember the pin droping commercial!)
This is exactly the sort of thing I could go along with. How about putting a tracking device on every prisoner while they are incarcerated. Should make sure that there are no more jail breaks.
Under the age of 16(whatever the age a minor is in your country) track them for safety. Remove them after they reach a certain age.
Convicted pedophiles/sex offenders could also be tracked so as to help police/community keep them away from children (see above paragraph). Ability to see how close to kids they get.
I have very few problems with tracking the location of certain people. I cant see a day where we all have them so am not to worried about it yet.
im a bit worried that Reloaded has scenes that are confusing/lame/unnecessary. Im worried that this might be due to the game "Enter the Matrix". Ive read that more of the story is revealed in the game and that the two should really be done. Am I paranoid? Do I need to play the game to really enjoy all of the movie?
Im currently boycotting (almost all) music/video games/movies so would rather not buy the game if at all possible. But might have to purchase this game if necessary to fully appreciate the movie. Hope someone can clear up whether the movie and the game are inseparable.
Graphic images appearing unbidden on PCs by way of e-mail in-boxes could qualify as evidence of a "hostile work environment," something that's prohibited by federal employment law. Porn spam--legal minefield for employers
"Just as an employer has a duty to protect from patrons and other people--like the (delivery) guy who fondles a secretary--there's a good theory saying a company has a duty to filter (offensive e-mail) even if the employees are being harassed entirely from far outside the company walls," Volokh said. "If the employer is reasonably capable of filtering the material, and if it doesn't do that, it would be held liable."
Wow, interesting how spam could be the basis for a hostile work enviromnet lawsuit.
I wish people who believe in these conspiracies would do a bit of research first instead of going straight to alt.conspiracy. Come use some of the brain cells in your head. Ive posted a link to the jessica lynch in question. The domain name is for the person who won the Miss New York pagent. No relation to the rescued POW.
Because, id like to see an alternative to storing nuclear waste underground (too much controversy and NIMN(not in my neighborhood)). We could safely lift the material up into space and then launch the waste somewhere else. This is still many years aways, but I hope they get some good funding to do their research, and build some test platforms.
The game, Command & Conquer Generals, depicts an animated siege of Baghdad, with the United States military battling a fictional terrorist group called the Global Liberation Army, which bombs the city with missiles carrying anthrax, killing civilians.
Come on had they not had this in the game or at least changed the name of the city to something else, youd not have this problem. You see americans boycott french goods, now the germans are doing it to the americans.
Basically, they want to build a linux desktop pc. Now here is where it might get interesting. Lets assume that they do the following: -remove all legacy hardware:floppy,ps/2,...,IDE -build in available techs: SATA,firewire,usb2,wi-fi,ethernet,sound(5.1+) -Ma ybe even future proof it by including PCI Express
They may have a very nice little desktop here. Make it a small form factor, and you might have a gold mine.
Now that it looks like HD manuf. are getting SATA drives out the door. Does anyone know when we could expect to see optical drives out too?
Id love to see the end of all IDE cables in my computer. Im using a small form factor(sff) shuttle, and one of the problems with circulating air is the IDE cable. Also is there any plans/ideas about all the wires coming out of the PSU, as in any way to make those wires thinner and less obstrusive(sp?)
During WW2 the navajo language was used to transmit secret messages. How best to encrypt your messages than to translate it into a language only a very few people know. Now you take a language that is completly dead and you get the advantage. I would not be suprised if the US intellegence does not have most of these languages catalogued by now.
I would have no problem with this proposed law, if they offered something similar to music execs guilty of price fixing. So congress should make sure that both sides of this issue are playing fairly.

Its generally accepted that most sites that reviewed Nvidias Geforce FX were disappointed and were very vocal that they expected alot more from NV. This dispite the fact that NV advertises alot.
As for ATi advertising on sites reviewing their product, this might be just part of the sites advertising agency. Alot of times the sites have little/minimal control of who is placed on their sites.
And cards that cost $50 still do not have features that were in cards that costed 200$ a year or two ago. Case and point GeForce4 MX 420 $50 today, whereas 1-2 years ago you could get a GF4-3 TI which will outperform the MX by a hell of alot.
After reading the article, I got the impression that they were only doing this so that later, some idiot who convinced the USPTO to give them a similar patent could not sue them. Look at all the ridicilous patents and the inevitable lawsuits. Hey, I would also patents as much as I could to future proof myself agains frivalous lawsuits.
The episode primarily deals with returning back to the Matrix. A male and female duel while he argues that they should return back to the matrix and leave "the real world". Whats interesting to me is that at the end we see that this is a simulation/test, so why would there not be safe guards to make sure that this did not happen, ie what happened in The Matrix. They are testing people to see how they would react, but are they assuming that they will catch everyone who would want to go back this way. I figure there would be some sort of safe guard to prevent anything like this happening, in the off chance that they did not catch everyone.
