"Windows 7 is going on 10 registry edits + resource hacking + disabling so many services... I'm still not done."
I am curious what changes you've made (especially the registry settings). I've installed Classic Shell and ShellFolderFix, but there are still a lot of things about Win7 that bug me.
I still use my 15 year old AT-style "Keypro" brand keyboard. It's not as loud as an IBM Model M, but feels just as nice. Better.
(I try really hard not to think about how gross it must be under the keys...)
Every other keyboard I've used feels plastic and cheap.
The same goes for my awesome 7 year old Viewsonic PF790 monitor, and my 10 year old Microsoft IntelliMouse. I'll be really sad when one of these finally die.
As I've gotten older, I've learned: if you like something a lot, buy a second one! Some day, they won't make them anymore.
My Keypro will probably last another 15 years, but I have a feeling my next computer won't have a PS/2 port. I don't know how well it will work chained with AT->PS2->USB adapters.
..still continue to pay for a service you're not happy with.
You make it sound like we've got options! Where I live in Chicago, I can go with Comcast for $65/month (after taxes), or get slightly-better-than-ISDN speeds with AT&T, for $40-something. If I want high-speed internet, I'm stuck with Comcast! You can't "vote with your dollar" when one company has a monopoly!
Actually, upon further investigation, I notice they sell Beneficial Insects (40).
What kind of book store sells "Praying Mantids: 6 Egg Cases" ? One that's trying to be too much of everything...
I never used Kazza, so perhaps these problems exist with it as well, but here are some things that really suck about Edonkey/Overnet:
1) Hardly any music. The other night I was looking for a Bjork album (that I own, of course!) and I got no results from a search. For being the biggest network, you'd think someone would have it.
2) Fakes - lots of fakes. If you're downloading, say, Starwars Battlefront (why you'd be doing this unless you own it, I couldn't say!), you'd better get an AVI preview tool to make sure you're not actually downloading any German-midget public-facial porn. Because the odds are high that you are. I suppose renaming obscure stuff to "Windows Longhorn Beta" will spread the obscure files faster, but it's annoying.
3) The search blows. Share Reactor was the solution - verified links (which fixed problem #2), but it got taken down. There needs to be some Freenet-like system that allows people to discuss the files in an anonymous way that the MPAA/RIAA can't take down. Also, a way to "vote" on files would be a nice feature.
4) Slow. Really slow. I don't mind, but if you can find the file on Supernova/etc, the difference is night and day.
Your daughter's first smile. Your son's joy the first time he catches a ball. The wink your favorite uncle always gave you, but that he'd never do on camera.
Not quite the same thing, but has anyone had any experience with this? Dolby says, "Best of all, it works with any stereo headphones", yet they claim it "isn't some kind of pseudo-surround effect: it's for real". Hmmm...
I am not the first person to have thought about this. Several Slashdot users have posted cautionary messages about developers placing their trust in the good intentions of Microsoft.
I love recursion!
But seriously, this entire article is "-1, Flamebait."
I'm a huge Phantasy Star nerd (I own the Japanese PS1 remake for Mega Drive! Shoot me.), so I guess I'm buying a playstation 2 if this thing ever comes to the states.
This is what Linux needs (i.e., gnome/kde) - some GOOD icons. I'm sorry, but the stuff that's being used now is crap. A mix of artsy, well drawn crap with crapy crap. This woman's icons both a) LOOK GOOD, and b) convey MEANING...
Let's politely (after the nasty slashdoting) ask her to whip some up for us. I'd paypal a few $'s for some nice, professional KDE icons, wouldn't you?

I am looking forward to this upcoming documentary:

I have a suggestion.
Prawns.
Sell streaming, high quality prawns.

Jesus Christ that's creepy!
A good read for anyone making "robots" : the uncanny valley
This is just a little TOO "deformed child" for my taste.
from the article on HP's site:

Uhhhh, WHAT?
Where's "-1, Creepy" ?

Wait, we're talking about video games, not porn, right?
Sigh - not enough sleep!!!

Yeah, I imagine it's tough trying to adapt to mars time!

What exactly is cyber-prostitution?
Hmmm, I might check this game out... *cough*

Hmmph, for some reason I read this as meaning:
Download, Burn, Share - get YOUR ass kicked by Metallica.
I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but Sega is doing a Phantasy Star 1 remake.
Check out the screenshots..

...#98 A piece of the Space Shuttle Columbia with NASA verification [155 points]...
Does anybody else think that this is in bad taste?
No. But I think it makes for a poor challenge. I can just buy a piece off of ebay!
Pffft!
I'm starting to like AOL... *TWO* major anti-spam lawsuits announced... in the same day? Wow!
