  1. Well... on Borland Kylix/JBuilder License Reviewed · · Score: 1

Other commercial license give them to come to your house anyway, they simply need to sue you and have law enforcment officers to do their job, so i don't see where the license is so terrible. Since borland inspectors aren't law enforcement officers you can even have the luxury of kicking them out of your property and then saying ohhh i missed that part of the license. Read this article http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/business/newsid_1 743000/1743560.stm and tell me if Borland is THAT evil.

  3. Re:Why would you do such a thing? on Michael Robertson Interview about Lindows · · Score: 1

Im running win2k and it has been pretty stable so far. Much more stable than XFree 4.x anyway.
Regarding this Lindows, i still have to understand if it's something like vmware or something like Wine, and anyway MS Office on windows requires a MS Office, so in the end you save money just for the OS (which is not the most expensive), but for the applications you have to buy them still. The only app i would really need on Linux would be Internet Exploder, give me that and i can stop running windows anytime :)

  4. Re:The actual count: 149,367 on Portable .NET Reaches A Quarter Million Lines · · Score: 1

I don't agree with a cost evaluation based uniquely on the effective lines of code. I still prefer to evaluate projects based on the "effective" hours spent on the project. Some sections are rewritten, a lot of research that doesnt end up in physical lines of code may have been done. The "line count" is a curious statistical value, but it doesnt add or take away nothing to the value of a project.

  9. I don't think it's something to joke about on DMCA Forces Cox To Censor Changelog? · · Score: 1

I don't think he is joking, and as the consequences of the US DMCA are too serious to be a matter of jokes. I think Alan Cox just gave a glimpse of what the future could have on hold if this law doesn't change. In my opinion he shouldn't just omit the patch on the changelog, he should omit the whole patch and put different patches for US and non-US versions, just to prove the point. Remembers me of when netscape and IE used to come in the US flavour (128 bit encryption) and Export flavour ... i think the DMCA is a step backward not a step forward, and that the security issues of computer systems are in the 99% of the cases due to misinformation not to an excess of information, we don't want security issues to circulate in l33t hacker circles, but we want to be made known to the public so they can get fixed quickly.

I found that benchmark really superficial, especially regarding the page loading times, i think it should have tested heavy CSS pages, layers, heavy pages with a lot of nested tables, and so on. Loading time of the browser its not really important, i would rather measure the time to open a new window when the browser is loaded. On linux my choices are mozilla 0.9.3 when i want things to work properly, and konqueror for the occasional browsing (it is faster). Running netscape 4.x these days is just asking for trouble, frequent hangs, and mangled pages.
