I'm reading that book, too, after I finished "Coders At Work" by Peter Seibel. Ken Thompson is one of the coders interviewed in that book, so it's worth the read if you're interested in what he's working on at Google.
Watcom was even better. The first release of their C/C++ compiler was Watcom C 10.0. They picked 10 because it was bigger than any competitor's version number at the time.
He became one of the world's richest men by sheer blind luck, according to that Wikipedia article. Broadcast.com was just another over-valued dotcom company until Yahoo came along and paid $5.9 billion for it. Cuban was just smart enough to take the money and run. Look at his other business ventures after broadcast.com. They're all massive dogs.
All "security" programs do that. It's SOP for these things to turn off, or ask the user to turn off, any competing programs during installation. Supposedly they all conflict with each other, but that sounds like an excuse for lousy programming to me.
I think the crackdown should be on Visa and Mastercard. Think about it; it's illegal to receive stolen goods, or sell stolen property, but the credit card companies are acting as intermediaries for these crooks. And, oh yeah, taking a cut (something like 3 - 5%). If the credit card companies had to take more responsibility for who they granted merchant accounts, under penalty of law, I'll bet these fraudsters would find it a lot harder to operate.

Would you be talking about the Musti Consortium? I was just reading this article about VistA and it mentions that hospitals in Finland forked VistA to create a suite of programs called MUSTI and Multilab.
I observed that as the ratings went down, so did the amount of clothing she wore. There was a preview near the end where she strolled through the shot in a bra and panties. (Do terminators even wear undies? Seems kinda pointless.)
Claudia Christian (Susan Ivanova) made unreasonable demands for cash, so the character had to go away.
Debatable. I saw Claudia Christian on stage at a con the weekend of the announcement, and she told her side of the story. She said that she had just asked for some time off (three or four episodes) to work on other projects, and Strazynski refused. That was the deal-breaker in her new contract, so she refused to sign. Then JMS spread the story that she was greedy. She said in public that she did not ask for more money.
As I said, this is her side of the story, but I found her very personable and believable.
Lots of hand-waving marketing bullshit. I'm sure they're going to keep using it internally, and the exploits will still happen with Microsoft code. Just like Microsoft applications will be ignored by UAC in Windows 7.
If they wanted to do something useful, they should have removed createRemoteThread instead.
