Wifi is laden with corner cases. Works great when it works and a b**ch to debug when you have issues. Not to mention randomly spotty. Great in your cubical, suddenly goes to crap when you get into the meeting room.
I am posting this from the 4G on my phone rather than the wifi, because my (fairly bleeding edge, though consumer grade) wireless router Just Can't See This Part of the House. That's 35ft away.
I don't know about wired ethernet going gentle into that good night. At least in new home construction (and certainly in offices), it seems like a no brainier to me: run the cabling up front to support ample power and wired connections. Amount of regret you'll experience later --> 0.
Totally agree. Most folks don't realize that when using WiFi, you have to take into account how your house is constructed. If you live in an older house with masonry walls, they most likely used chicken wire as a base. Works great while in the same room, but go to another room or outside, your AP is basically inside a big faraday cage. No workie at that point.
I started to flame you for your tinfoil hat type comment, but I got to thinking about what if the emissions controls broke down, you couldn't afford to fix it, and the authorities disable your car until you can have it TOWED into a dealership and repaired?
States like Georgia have something similar to this already but don't use remote kill switches. If the authorities pull you over and can visually confirm your vehicle is non-compliant, they can have the vehicle impounded and force you to pay money into an escrow account that a car dealer can access to bring the vehicle back up to specs (at least they do that for diesel trucks that might have the EGR, DPF, etc removed).
While this would suck for South Korea, I wish Kim WOULD try a large scale attack so his little army and power structure would be stomped into the ground.
It's relevant because Uber maintains they need not abide by any regulations to keep their customers safe. They flout laws, and if it should be found out that this person had something in his past that would have disqualified him from a regular taxi job it's going to be VERY relevant.
Granted, some people can snap without warning and without history, but basically Uber opened itself up to this based on public corporate behavior. Nobody would care if they didn't constantly make a spectacle of themselves ignoring laws.
You could have made an informative post without the juvenile name-calling, you sorry piece of shit. Someone needs to perform an incisor extraction on you with some brass knuckles....
Why is re-inventing the wheel called progress? What is wrong with the old system? Like the article says, most folks have committed that shifter operation to muscle memory years ago. Why change the way the shift works 'because it is new' ?
Like working a helpdesk in IT, users are creatures of habit and when you start moving their cheese, this kind of stuff happens.
It is not the PC crowd being pissed off about something you say or do that worries me. It is their ability to influence an organization or person who has direct control over whether or not you stay employed at a certain company or otherwise fuck with your life or livelihood. That is what pisses me off.
If someone got a person fired for something said that otherwise wouldn't bother anyone, that person had better start looking over their shoulder for retribution (preferably physical retribution such as teeth knocked out by a hard right hook).
Personally, I wish freaking Twitter would implode. That service has caused the most damage to free thought that I can think of. That is why I don't use it. Anybody could care less what opinion I have on a subject and I SURE as hell do not care what they think.

That is Godwin's..
In other words, the shareholders have spoken.

Or, you haul off and knock the asshole's teeth out with either your fist or nearest heavy blunt object.....

With downloadable games from Steam, Origin, etc running around 20-25GB, it would come in handy. What were you thinking? He was some kinda pirate?
Apple WILL comply when it gets to the point where federal marshals show up at Apple HQ to arrest Mr. Cook for not complying with a court order.
They kinda remind me of the Elysium Guardian robots that try to kill you upon command. Just mount a mini-gun on one arm, instant terminator!
That would never fly in 'Merica, because the bible belt folks would then bray about the mark of the beast and the Book of Revelation.

I thought the DMCA gave ISPs safe harbor protection? That is not in effect anymore?
I thought Twitter was already that....
Tired of hearing about France suing this and France suing that!
