Your son will not push the state of the art, and will likely not be able to keep up in competitive new markets

Why would anyone want to do that? Why would anyone want to play the startup-hopping coke-fueled game of working 90 hours a week to be "cutting edge competitive" and be ousted at 30 years old?

Only fools travel that road. "Settle" for an easy 40 hour week at 120k and a 3k sq. ft. house in Austin. Get a banging wife to bang and enjoy your life. Go on vacation several times a year. Have some fun. Know joy outside a leased office space. Get to know your kids better than your boss. Let the idiots have the "joy" of pushing the state of the art.

    I could live with that.....

the Soviet programme had a capsule-abort from a rocket once, one of the cosmonauts even credited the inventor of the American system that the Soviets duplicated with saving his life if I remember right.

The American system used in Challenger and Columbia? Seems like the Russians did not duplicate faithfully.

Ummmmm....the Space Shuttle had no such escape system. They had 'abort modes' that were only usable in certain stages of launch and climb to orbit. There was no option for the crew to 'bail out' during the Challenger accident and Columbia burned up on re-entry due to failure of the heat shielding on the left wing due to a foam impact during launch. The Apollo, Gemini and Mercury systems had such escape systems, but fortunately never had to be used.

Owners should have complete control of their software/hardware even if it is a car. The fact that they can change it any way, the fact that they can restrict your ability to change configurable settings with your device/thingy/car/anything is unacceptable. Sure put a warning on it that you may be changing things that affect the longevity of your thing. But its your decision and anyone having control of anything on someone elses thing that wasn't explicitly allowed by the owner is operating malware. Teslas come preloaded with malware that allows this.

In that case, you need to scream and yell at IBM. They have been doing stuff like that for years with their mainframes.
