1.5 isn't out yet - you, like me, are using an RC. Many extension authors are lazy and will only update their extensions after 1.5 is *really* released.
Agree with most of it, except for the last part: Nintendo doesn't target "kids". It targets "everyone".
People still make the mistake that "if it hasn't got sex or violence, it must be for kids". But games aren't like those toys that say "ages 3-6", which a 10-year old will probably find too simple and boring.
Not exactly. GT is a driving game: the dog would be an annoying extra. But the Creature is an important part of B&W: without it, it would be little more than a simple RTS.
Sorry, but your comment makes as much sense as saying that Gran Turismo should get rid of "that boring driving stuff". If you don't like the genre, fine, but...
However, it's a fact that almost every game before they were eaten by EA was great. Ultimas up to Serpent Isle, Wing Commander 1 and 2... those were classics.
After EA, came two more great Wing Commanders (3 and 4), two lousy Ultimas (8 and 9), UO... and nothing more. No more Origin.
Me, I'd blame EA, although Origin certainly wasn't perfect (they were badly managed, and paid poorly, as the article says).
From myexperience, the 1.5 betas are at least as stable, if not more stable, than the 1.0.x versions.
I've been using only 1.5b1 since it was out (and 1.5b2 since today), and they've been great - stable, visibly faster, and (few people talk about this one, but I love it) you can reorder open tabs by dragging them.:)
According to the guy, he has about 10 blogs, and ProBlogger (the one about making money from blogs) only gets him $5-$10 a day. The real money is in some of the others...
If you read Darren Rowse's (the $400k guy)'s blog, he's brutally honest about what he does. It's not just a "hobby", he works 8 hours a day or more, every day. And it's not just one blog, it's 10 or more. And he's been doing it for 3 years. In fact, he has written entries warning people not to quit their jobs, and not to create the illusion that "I can write a couple of entries a day and get rich! RICH!!".
And it's true, for every guy who makes real money with his blog (or most likely blogS), there are thousands who just make enough to pay for the domain and web hosting (and, therefore, have to keep their normal jobs), and many more who simply fail miserably. It's hard work, it takes a lot of your time, and you have to be good at it.
Shameless plug: not that I'm making any money yet, but I have a nice (ah, the modesty...) ongoing Blogging tips series in one of my own blogs. The latter parts include AdSense tips.:)
1- weren't you, yourself, a bit disappointed that the 2004 Pirates! adds nothing to the original (and indeed, removes some things), except better graphics, and dancing? Don't you think you should have expanded the game to make it more involved? And is there any chance for an expansion pack?:) It's a fun game, but I had a lot more fun with the old DOS CGA version, and with the Pirates! Gold remake (which had a lot more atmosphere than the new one, by the way).
2- although your older games are some of the best in history, don't you feel that, these days, they are just adding your name to games that you had little to do with, or are simply sequels of your original designs? And, if so, why does it happen? Not why they put your name there (it's obvious: it sells), but why don't you really design most of a game yourself, like you used to do? Are you, perhaps, bored with the current state of PC gaming?
Sorry if the questions sound "aggressive", I don't mean them in that way - I've just been a little disappointed in the latest Firaxis games (Civ 3 and Pirates!), and I don't believe you were significantly involved in them (hey, it's a compliment!).
Note, however, that I said just as insecure. As I said, it's not a binary thing. I'd rather have 5 holes in my software than 100, thank you very much.:)
Every time some open source software, like Firefox or Linux, have an exploit, lots of people scream "see, it's insecure too! it's no better than IE / Windows!".
That has always sounded weird to me. Windows or IE have had dozens, maybe hundreds of holes and exploits, and yet, when Linux or Firefox have one, they're "just as insecure"?!?
Is this thing binary? No holes = secure, one hole = as insecure as a hundred holes?
Fine, Firefox has one now. Not really "exploited", since it's already been patched, but never mind that. So what? How many IE holes have there been? How many PCs are full of spyware, viruses, or sending thousands of spam emails a day because of an IE hole?
Can Firefox even begin to compare to that? I don't think so. It's at least dozens of really bad exploits (not to mention the "less than really bad" ones) behind.

Atari Jaguar - (2 Stars)
I too will give 1 more star than Lynx. But fuck, this thing had an aliens game and that was it.
Not quite, it also had Jeff Minter's Tempest 2000.

This guy said it better than I probably could.
Great, great post. One of the best I've seen lately; I wish more people were able to grasp this.
I'm copying it to my blog - I'd give attribution, but you posted as an AC, so I can't. I still say it's not mine, though.

Indeed. SMAC forever.
Dude, you are advocating security through obscurity.
It's a bad idea.

You're wrong. Nothing, but absolutely nothing is worse than Access.
Let's see, his name is Wesley Mouch? :)

terrible MMRPGs,
Hey, the first Asheron's Call was GREAT!
... who takes two weeks to install a piece of software is absolutely incompetent.
In such a case, it's certainly much easier to blame the operating system than admitting it...
Reading GREAT text is a pleasure. Torment is still brilliant.

You ARE a troll. But the simple, one-line answer to you, if you weren't, would be:
"Much better" doesn't mean "perfect".

It showed up yesterday in my sister's 1.0.6. She didn't even have to check for updates manually.
(not to me, though, as I'm using 1.5b1)
To prevent their servers from crashing and burning, they make "spread out" auto-update to a couple of days. I'm guessing 1.5 will put an end to that.
All those buttons tell people to use Firefox. None of them says "this site should be viewed with Firefox".
Not quite. And, see, I didn't even mention Apache. :)
It has, but, at the moment, it doesn't work instantly. In other words, you'll probably be notified of a new version tomorrow, or the day after.
Supposedly, 1.5 will be better in this respect, as it can update itself using small patches.
