I was currious myself so I downloaded the drivers and such to get it activated.
I had to go through a bunh of hoops to get it going.
Work bought me a Dell Latitude D610. It has the TPM chip and is is able to be turned off in BIOS.
Maybe it's worth thousands if it "just works" in the first place instead of peicing stuff together with linux.
