Hm, I must say I disagree with the moderation of this post as "troll".
There are some very valid points made here.
They might not be "politically correct" or "sensitive to people who are differently abled"(you have no idea how painful it was for me to use the PC term;)), but really...if something like this offends you, perhaps you should take a good look at yourself; you're probably one of the people this guy's complaining about.
>>>supressing the hatemongerers has IMO become necessary
Tell me, do you *honestly* believe that censoring them will make it go away?
To me, that's like saying "If I close my eyes, you can't see me."..or if you don't like that one, "If I look the other way/throw a tarp over it/hide it, it doesn't exist."
What ever happened to parents making sure their kids weren't going to sites that they felt were "inappropriate"?
Hell, what ever happened to parental involvement in their childrens' lives?

With TV you can channel surf while the ads are on, then return when they're over and what you WANTED to watch returns.
I channel surf during commercials.
You can't exactly do that with web ads; if I leave the page and come back...the ad is still there, still irritating, and still not convincing me to buy anything.
Popups and popunders only convince me NOT to buy from the company in question.
Banner ads(that aren't popups) don't really bother me all that much. They're easy to ignore.
Oh, it doesn't bother me that they want to deport foreigners, what makes me uneasy is the fact that the want to be able to do it without any evidence of wrongdoing.
I understand what they're trying to do here, but the potential for abuse on the Justice Department's end is very real.
Please remmeber that "foreigner" doesn't always equal "illegal alien", they could be visiting friends or relatives who live here, tourists, on a student visa, or on a work visa.
"WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 ? The Justice Department has drafted legislation allowing the U.S. attorney general to lock up foreigners deemed to be terrorist suspects and order them deported without presenting any evidence."
...as the captain.
That's more than enough reason for me to avoid it.;)
TNG was the last series I was actually able to watch without wanting to throw a brick at the television..mainly because I just have a thing for Patrick Stewart.
TOS...I can watch it endlessly..through all the cheesiness, cheap props, cheap sets, fake looking aliens, lame predictable plots, Kirk thinking he's god's gift to everybody, etc..etc..and I never get bored.
I tried to sit through DS9 once. Made it about 10 minutes before I had to change channels.
Thought "maybe I just caught it on an off night", and tried watching it 5 or so more times.
Just couldn't get into it.
I will have to admit to liking the Tribbles episode, however.
VOY..same thing...I've tried, I've really tried to like it(my boyfriend's son is a fan, so it's on pretty frequently), and just plain don't.
My right wrist flares up every now and again, due to injuries caused by me being a klutz on ice(repeatedly..jeez..) and by me holding my wrist funny when using the mouse or keyboard on that side.
When it starts to hurt to the point where it becomes distracting, it goes in the brace for a day or two. A couple of advil or aleve never hurt the situation either.
On the rare occaions I'm NOT typing at work, it's easy to take a couple minutes to just give the irritated wrist a quick little massage
Y'know, it's hard to type with your wrists in 'proper position', I find myself actually forcing against the brace.:D
IMO that woman is just a whiner; it looks as though her employer has bent over backwards to accomodate her, and she wanted more more more more.
There are a lot of options she could've taken(physical therapy, braces, massage, speech recognition software, even surgery) to keep her RSI under control, and it looks as though she chose to do nothing, let it get worse and worse, then blame her employer.
...I LIKE all the misc. noises my computer makes.
I'd miss the grinding(or squeaking, as the 13 year old 286 does), the whirring, the spinning, and the general drone.
The only time my computer is silent is when power's out, hardware is being added, or it's not feeling well.
...things they pulled with school computers, I might as well chime in.
I never did anything overly bad, I was allowed to be a "second in command" type to the network admin in high school because the faculty liked me, but in middle school I managed to get the entire French department banned from the Apple IIe lab.:D
I'd discovered the magic that was the control panel of these machines, and would do just plain obnoxious crap to them like:
Change the keyboard layout to Swedish
Change the background to hot pink and the text to orange(or some other obnoxious color combo)
Change the background and text to the same color(usually black on black so it looked dead).
The funny thing is, I did this while our class was IN there, yet nobody ever caught me doing it.
They just knew it was someone in a French class, so they banned the department from using the labs for a semester.
I should've been caught, I kept calling my friends over and saying "check this out, it's so cool!" and they got a kick out of it..no one ever squealed on me though.:)
In high school, I got to have the fun of busting wannabe "hackers" or "crackers"..of course, being able to bypass a Win9x logon screen isn't any huge feat.
They all seemed so SUPRISED that we could see the porn sites they'd visit coming in over the server log files.
That's why tech support people tend to hate their jobs and the customer. We put up with people like those listed from my own experience on a daily & hourly basis.
After awhile you can't help but become bitter and resentful of end users.
If you've never done phone support, some of those sound far fetched, but if you HAVE been subjected to phone support, you'll probably recognize a lot of what's there.
...it's all over. They'll walk all over you and eat you alive. They got me a few times when I started last year.
The last female entry level phone support tech we had was reduced to tears her first day by some very abusive and very STUPID customer.
She wasn't the brightest tech, but she was very nice, I felt really bad for her.
That call was, fortunately, recorded, and when he called back for "a smart tech" he was transferred to the manager and told that he was no longer entitled to support.
He "threatened" to cancel his piddly dialup account, the manager said "I'll have it done in 30 seconds, we don't need or want customers like you"
Spearkerphone can be fun in the office.

Nothing overly witty to say, I suppose.

Blame everybody but yourselves...yeesh.
...msn.com displays just fine for me.
:)
Ugly as sin, but it displays.
..but I wouldn't mind seeing them blown to bits. ;)
Irritating lot.
Gads, I haven't used ROT-13 in a LONG time.
Then again, I haven't been on usenet much in the past year either.
...that it "can't be cracked", the harder people are going to try to crack it. If, for nothing else, simply to prove them wrong.

That makes me just a tad uneasy.
My arteries should be harder than granite by now...'scuse me, my mug is empty again.

Arrrrr, me mateys!
...ever heard of wrist braces?
:D

LOL!! That was one of my submissions to that page! I've got a couple more there, and some on techtales.com too.
God, it happened about 3 or 4 years ago now. I wonder whatever happened to that dimwit...
There are a few more like that on my own page of work related stories:

..between the "moon landing hoax" show and X-files is that X-files never claimed to be a reality show.
:)
Non-troglodytes know this, and can seperate a sci-fi show from reality.
