I am not going to weigh in on all the issues here, but I interned at Jason's studio long ago when his current interns were probably infants. You don't have to be an intern there to go visit the webpage for Holographic Studios and see things like this:
Look for the part about how many lasers you need. The technique can be as simple as something called a pre-swell of the emulsion and some selective exposures.
If you are reading this, check out his site and definitely watch the movie. Jason didn't get his body of work stretching over decades by nay-saying and giving up on things that seemed impossible to others. It is a good attitude for anything you do.
I marvel at the Eolas contribution to society every time I have to click into a control in order to interact with it. Then I usually suck my tounge, sigh and say Eolas instead of a less-vulgar curse.
I don't know which to feel worse about; the guy having DRM issues, or the fact that he purchased a monitor that can't actually display and entire 1080i/p/either HDTV image natively. Gotta insist on the WUXGA these days. It won't bite!
I am wondering if this is a big trend on the system. The numbers sort of suggest this, but a previous poster did point out that history can bias attach rates. The system is profitable on a per-unit basis and demand is high, but what sort of success is there if the system never really sells titles or attracts good 3rd party investment? The odd thing is that a model of success where hardware units are the only important factor more resembles a plug-in model for revenue than the more traditional razor and blades model.
Does anyone care to discuss the difference in attach rates? The summary didn't specify the PS3 or PS2 attach rates, but it did come out and basically show the 360 has nearly twice the attach rate of the Wii. They also mention how Wii sports isn't included in the attach rate, but Wii Play is. I know we like to revel in the success the hardware is enjoying, but should there be concern as long as this attach rate gap exists? Should Mario have sold something more like 3million in the first month to bring it closer to the total Zelda sales? So far I believe Guitar Hero III is the most-successful third-party title on the Wii. It was definitely the first time that I noticed a 3rd party in the top ten NPD on that system. Good to see the software is really picking up in total dollars. Impressive.
When will creationists realize that you can't prove divine intervention any more than you can prove flying purple unicorns? Why can't they just stick to a doctrine of faith and belief?
I just can help it. WE HAVE TO GO AFTER THESE GUYS! GET OUT AND VOTE TO GET THIS ADMINISTRATION IMPEACHED BY THE ONLY MAJOR PARTY WHO HAS THE GUTS. VOTE DEMOCRATIC. I don't think very many people agree with every last thing the Dems stand for and do, but the administration and the asleep-at-the-switch congress are forcing our hands. To quote the Dude, "This aggression will not stand!"
How will they know that they have the correct private keys without "testing" them on the owners' encrypted communications every so often? Oh well, it is England after all. Living on an island can do odd things to living things.
A critical hole in this poll is the assertion that the investigation is of terrorism. This NSA program is in fact investigating EVERYONE with terrorism as an after thought. The poll really should say 67% of Americans prefer to be deceived, since that is what putting the question in those terms does. I have a feeling that people would be way less apt to say yes if we asked if the government should be able to investigate anyone at any time for no reason and with no oversight or control over their actions.
I think the article pointed out a good contrast of social trend against actual sentiments. The dearth of anti-union comments on here is unsurprising, but also misleading. Never heard of WashTech before either, so that was very interesting. Just more proof that a union isn't all that of a toxic or alien concept in how people work.
My marketing teacher in college just busted out a very insightful comment one day on the subject of unions and whether it was right to be for or against them. She just looked at us all and said:
"You are going to have organized management, so you are going to have organized labor." Matter of fact it is just a part of everything.
Stop accomodating and fuck 'em. That simple and you'd be surprised how people get out of the way once you begin to assert yourself. Rent Cobb with Tommy Lee Jones for inspiration, but don't rape/pistol whip anyone.;)
Perhaps this isn't really the proper place, but I feel this needs to be said. Blizzard is actually hiring people to run the realms. Go to http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/ and see what is there. They have had a senior Oracle guru post up there for over a year. Maybe someone looking at these forums can get a job there and help them suck less.
Wow. Reading this really is depressing when you are a fuckup making a solid third less than 75% of the people in your field. I am not completely retarded and do realize that it is all my fault, but still. Just throwing it out there for a little empathy to any other fuckups who may check out these comments.
Well, I don't work in IT anymore for this very reason. During my 10-year stint with servers, routers, PCs and the like I did meet one guy who could really get things done. He ended up being the Cisco monkey at the last company I worked for and this was his advice:
"It is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask and be denied."
Bascially they would find a way to get something done and have it finished and in production before the sluggish controls could kick in. He'd get called in for a reaming and just say he was sorry and agree that he was wrong. Eventually, the management decided he was just the man to upgrade the entire enterprise network over only 3 months. Maybe you can't do this, but usually if you put out good stuff the mediocrity-moderating red tape won't apply if you just go bad ass enough to risk it.
For inspiration see "Sharky's Machine" with Burt Reynolds, great flick about this very thing with a little extra evil so you don't fall asleep. Lastly, it helps to not have some arsonist waiting in the wings to burn down your machine to forward their own goals. Loose lips sink ships.
Pot calls kettle black, brief fight ensues, they both make up and get chinese as the owner lets them eat on a tab. Still nice to see something vaguely progressive since the state of the union was all about the evils of the world including a lack of democracy. Last I checked China and Saudi Arabia weren't incredibly democratic, especially if you discount the democratically-elected parlaiment of Iran and say they are not democratic. Drink up shriners.
Dang neighborhood kids get off my character and take your Wikipedia with you! (Shakes fist in air) Little whippersnappers running around all day with your Internets and peer-editing! What's the world come to?
It all boils down to profit. Yahoo can be sued by a minority of their shareholders for not pursuing profit toward to utmost benefit of wealth for the shareholders. Here (www.lapres.net) is a link of the precedent that makes this happen.
So it all boils down to no profit in protecting dissidents compared against the torrent of profit from serving Chinese Internet users. This is a travesty, but I suggest a market opportunity...
We need to establish a speculative futures market for human rights violations, perhaps by geopolitical region. Things like genocide, curable disease infections and suppression of thought under totalitarian regimes can be assigned fair market values and traded amongst participants.
Maybe this (www.capitalistpig.com/) can help set it up. I dunno, just an idea. It seems imagination is the only thing that will save us. Sure has worked out for the greedy people!
The press release linked doesn't mention it, but nature has an implementation of this phenomenon called the Snapping Shrimp. This tiny bugger creates a cavitation buble with a claw that actually stuns prey with the shockwave generated. I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I first saw video of this.
Maybe we will see the rise of genetically engineered shrimp that can live in the reactor and keep the system up for peanuts?
I suspect this will receive a "Redundant" mod. I hope!
The blog is simple and true. Microsoft owns the marketplace that is Microsoft Windows. He says in the article "You can not compete on a playing field to which you do not have access." That statement is extremely true. Look at any marketplace and that is what you will see, ownership is equal to access control. Microsoft can change the rules on Windows, but not on Linux/BSD.
Thank you for the example. Another factor to consider in producing the energy is the level of energy needed to start the sustaining reaction. This can be regained after the reaction begins, but you still need to invest it to get started.
Arakis doesn't refer to Arrakis. Arakis refers to me, and I'm nice enough to have let an energy concern use the name in the past.
I believe I have misunderstood this statement. You say that you are getting out more energy than you put in and then say when all is considered you aren't breaking any laws.
From what I understand what you say isn't entirely accurate. Not only do you not get more energy out of reality, but there is a tax on converting energy that sees to you not getting even. Were you talking about the potential nuclear energy in the atoms involved? Is that where the extra bump of energy is coming from?
My shorthand to thermodynamics: -It has all been done. -No such thing as a free lunch. -Everything freezes in the end.

In a word: Presence

From the end of the end of the "Allegations" section of the PDF:
"Apple deliberately and wrongfully chose easy profits over responsibility to its purchasers."
I suppose you can "Think Different" and dismiss many facts of this case, but that single complaint is very obvious from the facts presented.

Shucks I was looking forward to getting my PS3 games on phonograph like I have for all my other game systems. This digital craze is over the top!

Dan is the man in DNS. He pretty much explains why they don't have implementation here:
