i went to see it at an 11:30 pm showing after it had been out for weeks and i had the entire theatre to myself and my g/f (who had talked me into giong to the movies that night) and I was actually impressed as I had expected it to be another annoying kiddie film.. i haven't read the books and probably won't either.. my $.02
I thought I had been redirected to tvguide.com or something for a minute.. yes buffy posts are lame, in fact one can regularly read other sites (linuxtoday.com seems to be a major one) and predictably guess which stories will be on slashdot within several hours.. i read that venezuelan gov't post from yesterday the day before on linuxtoday and that is one small example..
buffy sucks, the movie sucked, the WB is the sole reason for the downfall of America
and no I don't care if I burn mod points either, I love how everyone screams about their rights on here but as soon as you're disagreed with people waste no time dropping mod points on you like you were hiroshima

My father is also a lawyer, who has worked in various state government institutions for over 20 years and they've been using WordPerfect for as long as I can remember. Why? because WordPerfect has an add-on available soley for lawyers that adds a huge amount of funcationality for them and its' been around for a long time. Although private law firms may or may not use it, government offices most certainly do, although right now they're under going a massive overhaul of the system done by Computer Associates and in the end they may or may not still be using it.
yes but isn't WMA supposed to be a trusted format? and wouldn't the majority of people (with windows) turn to what is already on their machines to begin with (windows media player) if their format of choice, mp3, were removed? I mean even if it isn't perfect M$ has teh monopoly to fix it's problems later, it could just be that they're tryinig to corral (sp) the majority into their pens before the slaughter
yes, but what about the non-megacorp players with a relatively large user base, like xmms?
i wonder what prompted them to do this in the first place..
call me a conspiracy theorist but i wouldn't be suprised if the RIAA is behind this somehow -- "we can't kill the servers, we can't kill the users.. hmm.. AH HAH!! we'll kill the format"
realize that het overwhelming majority of people with mp3's have no clue how to go about re-encoding their collection, all they know is that suddenly the number of mp3's on kazaa drops substantially (as all the major mp3 traders with bandwidth are also usually tech savvy and using work connections or whatnot)
outside of/. how many people have ever heard of ogg's or vorbis? i'm willing to bet none
if they don't relent and force people to change formats their revenue stream from existing licensing (i'm sure that in-car mp3 players, hand helds and whatnot required licensing before this) will dry up as no one (the public) will be using their format anymore if they have to pay on an individual basis for it.. although i'm not looking forward to re-encoding all 240+ hours of mp3's i have into smoething else (ogg) i will do it if i have to and others will too
what were the old fees then? i've never heard about any fees associated with mp3's before, ever, and i've been using them since i could only fit 2 songs on a zip disk and read about the mp3 format as a theory in a magazine whiel on an airplane, i've never heard of fees associated with their use before ever and i've been accumulating mp3's for years as have many others, just because you claim that they hav ebeen around forever doesn't mean that/. editors or anyone else is a clairvoyant..
how they plan to go about enforcing this.. i wonder what AOL will think of this, I wonder if they will pull winamp or pay the one time $60,000 for decoder and $50,000 for encoder (winamp has both) fees..
and more importantly, what about all the people with multiple gb's of mp3's, i know i have ~10gb worth and i'm not alone
I think the back lash of angry users adn whatnot will squelch this quickly, surely they dont' think people will actually pay after it's been free for so many years
yes that is true, it was on teh front page of cnn yesterday, and if you dig a bit deeper you will find out that while violent crimes and property crimes has been decreasing, the drug "crimes" have sharply increased, and the overwhelming majority of people sitting in jail or are on probation are there for drug offenses
so basically if we were given back our rights to personal freedom and the war on drugs were declared a loss (right now it's far far far worse a loss than vietnam/korea/bay of pigs put together) and were cancelled prisons would empty out and american's might be able to call themselves the land of the free with being snickered at by anyone with half an ounce of common sense
they have already violated your rights, how about the right to privacy, the right to not be illegally searched, the right to be presumed innocent instead of guilty.. if you actually read the article you would know that many of hte people in the database had no idea that their information was going into it and had been patently LIED to by government officials about what the samples were for
this is the kind of shit that makes me want to leave the country, i live in Ohio as i write this and i have to admit i'm disgusted by what i read.
that if they do it will be just about as effective as the war on drugs *cough* not at all *cough* and just about anything else large numbers of people want to do that doesn't actually harm anyone
me either, books have no downtime, cause less eyestrain and are generally easier to read
at least for me

required: 1 16 oz can of diced or whole peeled tomatoes 1 16 oz can of mild chili beans 1 (or more) onion(s) diced 1 pound of ground beef 10 tablespoons of chili powder
this recipe is extremely easy, all you do is brown the meat in the bottom of a large sauce pan (high heat)(add salt/pepper to taste) and break it up into smaller pieces while it's cooking, once it' s finished take it out and drain most of the grease out of it w/ a strainer, leave a small amount in teh bottom, toss in your diced onions, add the chili powder/paprika/cayenne, let the onions sweat a bit toss in your tomatoes beans and re-add the meat.. add water to get teh consistency you like, let the pot come to a simmer and serve covered w/ cheese and sourcream and some chips for dipping...
this is one of my g/f's favorite recipes and is even easy enough that i can make it in a pinch
i see a whole lot of "people who believe in aliens are crazy" jokes.. pretty disheartening for a website supposedly so technically inclined
perhaps you should check out some of the more recent ones on www.artbell.com.. in case you don't know he's a nationally syndicated talk show host whose show airs late at night (he was recently ranked #1 talk show host in America, above Rush Limbaugh) he also has been following recent developments in crop circles which ave been popping up all over the world (mostly in europe) in tandem wtih various cattle mutilations (argentina)
if you see the pics they are quite elaborate and definitely not natural, and for having been done in a single night Disney would have had to put down some serious money.. espeically considering the biggest one is right next to StoneHenge (correct me if i'm wrong but Disney still releases movies in teh US first)
i dunno what they look like to you but they look like hints at the solar flares from 2012 that the mayans predicted.. my $.02

yes, i recently talked with a friend who does freelance web development, who also runs linux, was singing the praises of.Net, the languages? no
it was the seamless integration of everything which was so impressive
although i haven't used it, i'm sure that mono hasn't reached anywhere near the level of polish that goes into something a multibillion dollar corporation bets their future on.
it seems like a logical step to me, if they can track all the license plates going into and coming out of london; and they have databases of facial prints and whatnot that it would be trivial to see where everyone is on a particular day at a particular time.. meaning that you are now accountable for *everything* that you do wrong, speed? fine. throw that gum wrapper out teh window? fine. tisk tisk the information can also be sold to private companies for even more road improvement monies (supposedlyt eh purpose of this anyway) so that now you can have targeted advertising, we know that you went to our competitors so we'll send you junkmail with coupons.. private investigators would be able to know whether you were at work or your secretaries apartment etc etc etc.. once you put a system in place that can monitor everyone everywhere in a city at any given time the potential for abuse is *LIMITLESS*
what happens with l33t h4x0rs change the database so that cancer is treated with rubbing popsicles on your testicles
(or even less savory, used to assassinate someone w/ an incorrect diagnosis and treatment)
definitely technology can aid doctors, if they let it.. i don't think they will be replaced any time soon though...
once doctors realize they provide a service even if the machines make 99% accurate diagnosis people will still see doctors to make sure they're right, hear personalized advice etc.. doctors are more than just walking encylopedias of medical knowledge -- they should adapt quickly
