You're not saying some time in the future I won't be forced to watch commercials because some gizmo or another preventing me from switching channels? I'll watch commercials of my own free will?
No, the idea is that you'll succumb to peer pressure and watch commercials because all of the cool kids are doing it.
However, it is unacceptable for any professionally-designed site to look like crap on a default-configured computer.
I'll have to disagree that slashdot looks like crap in its current incarnation, but that could be just because this is the site I've visted the most over the past 5 or 6 years. Also, this isn't exactly a "professionally-designed site", given that its new look will be based on this contest.
Good point! I remember booting up my old tandy with my MS-DOS floppies and running basic from the A:> prompt. I'd get basic programming books out of the school library and copy out the mini game programs. I'm not sure I totally understood everything that was going on in them, but it was pretty neat seeing it all run after I was done with it. Then I'd go and muck around with things a bit--change the strings and so on--until I broke it. I don't think I ever figured out what GOSUB did, though.:)
I've never bought a PC from a bricks-and-morter store. The selection and configurability availble online is incredibly more superior than what's available at a store. Additionally, you don't have to deal with salesmen who don't know quite what they're talking about trying to get you add on low-quality parts that have a high profit margin.
Next time you see a recommendation like that, you can click the "Why was I recommended this?" link under it and then uncheck the "Use this for recommendations" checkbox by the items that you don't want to be used as sources for your recommendations. Alternatively, you can go into "Your Store" through the tabs at the top and then go to the Improve Your Recommendations section and find the items and uncheck the same checkbox.
A finance program would be most welcome. Quicken for Mac is awful. Most others I've tried out have been severly lacking in features. Lately I've been using Moneydance, which isn't terrible, but it's pretty simplistic. I'd like to see what Apple could produce in this area.
I agree. After I kicked my Everquest habit a few years back, playing single-player games seems to be lacking something. Even playing solo, an online game adds an extra dimension with the random encounters with other players and the background chatter. A single-player game now seems to me to be very quiet and isolated. Sometimes that's a good thing, but being online with other players can add more depth to a player's experience.
Nu-uh! You're a poopy-head!
Looks like his book doesn't come out until September 30. You can, however, check out his blog with the same title, Not Even Wrong.

I'd blame ninjas. They'd obviously go after the black DS Lites, since they'd go better with their outfits.
I'd recommend The Official Rock Paper Scissors Strategy Guide.
You mean it's not? Someone better tell the elephant parked on my roof then.
is what FEMA intends to do about this?
Not a whole heck of a lot. Standard Operating Procedure.

Good point. I'd prefer it if the new designs stayed with tradition and left the main font to be the browser's default.
None of them uses Times New Roman. That's the biggest thing that I identify with slashdot.
It is amusing and has that rewatchablity that viral marketing needs, but it kind of makes firefox seem like a boring whiner. ;)

Does it still smell like fried chicken and french fries when you drive down the road?
If you want to drop in, here's Bill's house on google maps [via Sightseeing with Google Maps]:

I like how whenever God it drawn in the Simpsons, He has 5 fingers.
You're calling the birth of Zheng Xuan "nothing"? :)

Thanks. That does look interesting. I'll give the free trial a shot, at least.
Finance program or tax calculator?

Some great PR work!?
Reminds me of Paul Graham's piece from early last year The Submarine.
The first picture was taken at the same film lot where they shot the moon landings, obviously.

Good point. You can't argue with stripper factory and beer volcano.
RAmen to that
Mmm... Ramen.
