As someone who is not a US citizen or resident, I should not sign the petition. It's not my business, formally.
Why is it not your business? Anything that involves US copyright eventually involves everyone on this planet (Re: Megaupload). While I'm not sure that it will even allow you to sign it, you should at least make the attempt.
Paul Watson was asked to leave Greenpeace because when GP was attempting to get charitable status with the US IRS, the IRS told them "No property damage". Later that week, Watson disarmed a harp seal hunter who was clubbing a seal to death and tossed the club into the ocean. That is considered property damage and the board asked him to resign.
A few years later, one of the other founders of GP decided that they had become too soft, left and joined Sea Shepherd.
I believe everyone on board SS's ships are vegetarian, if not Vegan.
The Japanese are not "Whaling", they are conducting "Research" which apparently involves stockpiling whale meat for consumption. The Japanese whaling fleet has repeatedly violated international treaties and at least one off-limits whale sanctuary. The largest power in the area is Australia and they refuse to enforce the international treaties that apply to the sanctuary, hence Sea Shepard has to step in and enforce the law.
I'd be willing to bet that the minute the Japanese whaling fleet took a missile shot at the drone, the Australian navy would be all over them. The Japanese don't need that kind of bad PR at this point in time.
I agree completely, however in certain circumstances such as border monitoring, the predator drones are a much better option. Cruising at about 25000 feet, they can see an enormous amount of ground. When you add the infrared and thermal imaging capabilities they normally carry, it gives you the ability to spot an object the size of a coyote in the dark and relay that information and location to officers on the ground.
In this case, on a 3,000 acre ranch, the use of a helicopter would have been cost-prohibitive and foolish. The suspects would have heard it and gone to ground. The predator is nearly silent at that altitude.
Before anyone goes all ape-s$%t about this being an intrusion of the military into civilian affairs, the drones in question are owned and operated by Customs and Border Patrol, a division of the Department of Homeland Security. They are housed at an Air Force base, but not used nor owned by the USAF.
CBP had been using drones for a couple of years to patrol the borders and this is an extension of that mission. Works better than a helo, especially for very large areas.
One of the earlier reports (about 6-8 months ago or so) on this weapon had a quote from one of the test engineers saying that the detonation was not unlike a tsunami. A very high pressure wave followed by an ignition that 'flowed around corners like water'. This thing was designed to kill everything in an underground complex with one hit, regardless of number of entrances.
Not nearly enough money there to offset the loss of business from social conservatives boycotting Gerber.
Which is why the lawsuit damage amount will be staggering. Same with disney.xxx. These companies can bring millions of dollars in legal muscle to bear when it comes to protecting their names and IP. Just the 'goodwill' & defamation of company character amounts will be huge.
In AZ if you get caught knowingly hiring illegals and you lose your license to do business in the state. Many employers are not willing to take that chance.
Have you read the amended version of the law? The one that the Governor signed? The "Papers Please" provision was removed due the to fact that they determined that there was no way they could enforce it, nor would most law enforcement in the state actually follow it.
To some degree I can agree with you, however there are a number of illegals who are here to escape persecution in their native country. While most are here for the jobs, some are fleeing something much worse than a jail cell in the US.
In Joe's defense (god I cannot believe I am defending him), the chain gangs are a volunteer program. No inmate is forced to work chain gang. The inmates that do volunteer see it as a welcome time away from the jail cell.
hm, while we're waving peckers, I've still got an Apple IIe & IIgs, a C128, a semi functional Imsai 8080 and a Kaypro of some indeterminate type (can't remember which model {huge, heavy blue thing}) (the kaypro is in storage. )
On that note, I use VPC for anything that requires an older version of windows and DOSbox for any other app that requires an older intel based proc.
Apparently MS either researched his conduct and decided that it was far enough beyond the norm to not be cheating or is just ignoring the media hoping that this will go away. Not entirely sure which.
Edit: "decided that it was far enough beyond the norm to be cheating"
In some cases, autism manifests as a savant-level ability to do one thing. Think "Rain-Man" but on subjects other than numbers (and in this case without much of the other diminished mental ability). In this case, it appears that the kid is really good at figuring out games and how to beat them.

Tax gains depending on the time stock was held. Held less than 1 day: 99% tax rate. Held more than 1 year: income tax rate. Interpolate. Extremely short term "predictions" on the stock market have no value to society and should not be rewarded.
As it is now in the U.S., anything held less than 1 year is considered income, whereas over 1 year is capital gains. Pretty big difference in percentage.
If you RTFA, you'll see that they did indeed sign a consent form that was "purposely simple" (doctor's words) due to that fact that english is not the Havasupai's primary language. To "study the causes of behavioral/medical disorders." sounds like a boilerplate consent that took advantage of that fact.
What it looks like is that ASU realized they were about to have their a**es handed to them and they backed off and said "ok, we f-ed up, what can we do to make it right?" Had a judge found in the Havasupai's favor it would have had far reaching effects throughout the US, not just in the educational system but also in the health and human services system.

It's not just Slashdot. Reddit, Digg, Kotaku, 1up and a slew of other websites are all linking back to PA. Effectively it's an unintentional DDOS.

yeah, it's to fireworks displays.
It landed in a wildlife preserve and yes he did clean it all up.

Most of it is from AZ Department of Public Safety. They hate Joe as much as the next guy.

Actually, you can use packet-radio to send network data via HAM. It's slow, it's buggy, but when it's all you've got, it's there.

And when you have a loved one in the field, coming under fire almost every day, you will have earned the right to make this comment.
Until then, STFU.

I'm thinking Googles response should be 'piss off'.
