The article and the comments by many that have posted shows how ignorant Joe public really is. People keep on referring to this "right to free speech" as though it applies everywhere in all areas. Well sorry to burst your bubble, but that's not so.
The right to free speech does not extend to private property. This is why if I'm inside your house and make a nasty comment about you, you are free to kick me out. The same goes for ISPs. You are subscribing to their service within their private property. If they choose to enforce their TOS a certain way, and you agree to it, then you have no case for this assertion of freedom of speech.

This is a very flawed statistic. It reminds me of this study done by the tobacco companies once that said people who quit smoking are more likely to die earlier than people who don't quit. What they don't tell you is that people quit BECAUSE they're almost dead!!
Same goes for this study. There is a correlation between national wealth and anti-piracy. However this doesn't prove cause and effect. In fact there are many other factors that can easily play into this correlation. Nations that are rich are able to pay for software legitimately. Nations that are rich have the most to lose if copyrights are not enforced.
Think back to the last century. The U.S., being the young developing nation it was back then, didn't bother respecting any intellectual property rights themselves. Works from Britain were stolen, no royalties were paid, and our government didn't care much either. Just go do a search on google for what Charles Dickens thought about the U.S. when we stole his books/works and paid him nothing for it.
Fact is, developing nations NEED some latitude in terms of copyrights. Without it how are they going to develop? People in some of these countries can't even make enough $ in a year to pay for a crappy copy of Windows. The U.S. went through the same thing, and yet now we're calling the kettle black. This is hypocricy.
But seriously, prices are dropping. I just got a Viewsonic VX900 19 inch LCD monitor for $723 (including taxes) at BestBuys. Of course, I took advantage of their 10% off deal + $100 rebate.:)
Thus far all I've been reading is how Google should stay put and refrain from an IPO. Most people seem to believe that IPOs are about greed.
Well here's another view. I see it as a great marketing tool. I remember when eBay after their IPO. Not only did their value shot up, they suddenly had a huge surge in traffic from all of the chit chat, rumors, and hype about them. Till this day, eBay, Amazon, and a few others remain the true gems of the dot com industry. While guys like Aol are tanking year over year, their stock prices have shot up.
Why don't we have mapping and positioning data accessible to us already?
Because then the phone would have to store the map in its memory. These maps are huge and would take lots of memory, which cell phone companies thus far are not willing to put in for cost purposes.
Not a fun thing to always be on the lookout for sendmail exploits. After the thousandth's exploit, I finally got my ass in order and switched to qmail. Much better and easier to configure too!
Basically the spammer was trying to send large amounts of spam to Docomo's mobile phone users. Mobile phone users are charged for receiving emails. Since 1) many of the spammed users don't exist and 2) it was unsolicited commercial email, it only makes sense for the spammer to pay!
I say we should send these morons a one-way ticket to Iraa muahahahaha!!
These website defacements aren't about protesting the war. They're about feeding the ego, to find any excuse to justify the FUN of defacing a website without having the bear the moral consequences. Truth is, these script kiddies would probably have done the same thing no matter what the controversial topic at hand was.
Basically the author is saying we should have to PAY to have spam stopped. Not only will it NOT work, but it'll just mean that spam would be ok if they pay to send it.
What's up with/. lately? Every Dick, Moe, and Larry is trying to reply with stupid humor. 99% of the replies in this topic have ZERO substance and filled with lame "patent" "one-click" "goatse.cx" comments.
It appears the Japanese have some sort of child porn fetish. Read some of their comics and you'll start realizing all of the sexual characters wear the school girl clothes and knee high socks.
No YOU are a moron. Learn how to use logic already. In your original post you were basically saying piracy had NO negative effects on music sales. It's one thing to say there is no proof of it harming sales, it's quite another to say ABSOLUTELY that it doesn't.
You sir, need to take a few basic logic courses because you know NOTHING about logic.
Oh and you are just the type of spoonfed anarchist who goes around hating everything capitalist just to justify your immoral acts of theft. People like you go around justifying every crime. Get a job and get a life. These people worked their asses off. If you like their music then they've earned your money.

Every time I fart I am contributing to a rise in global temperature by about 0.000000000000001 degrees Celcius for 24 hours.
Time to move to Afghanistan.

You forgot to mention the Bible as well.
Wow that is a great price. Oh well I already got mine. I'm just glad that price of $723 includes tax also.
I would have opted for one with better response time, but I already have another computer I use solely for gaming.
Supply and demand. Get used to it.

That's only ONE company in a world of "exceptions". How about Walmart? Following your logic they shouldn't be succeeding so wildly.

Here we go with another stupid idea to curb spam.
Basically the author is saying we should have to PAY to have spam stopped. Not only will it NOT work, but it'll just mean that spam would be ok if they pay to send it.
And I'll be there hiding in the desert waiting to steal a robot or two.
Another moronic reply.
Next thing you know, Al Queda will be using it.
One billion pieces of spam is about how much crap aohell cd's are mass mailed out to every Joe, Dick and Harry.
If anyone should be blocked, it should be aol themselves.

I think it has to do with cultural differences.
