well i've never actually noticed any downtime, to be quite honest. i initially used the service to learn FreeBSD, and while the service isn't so managed that they'll hold your hand, they are extremely helpful with support by email or AOL IM. i'm currently on an unmetred freebsd vps for $30/m, i get transfer rates of about 150kb/s. they're true to their word about no more than 16 VPSs per CPU, which gives me pleanty of processing power for my needs
Princeton has had an "alternative" sciences department for decades: PEAR, most often cited for their research into remote viewing. They consistantly veer on the side of quackery, preferring to dismiss any elements of their "science" that categorically refute their findings in favour of a more popular conclusion, albeit confused and absurd.
Then again, iPods are overpriced and under-featured and seem to have caught the public interest - so maybe people really are as stupid as Apple thinks they are
nobody wants 500 features in a walkman, they just want a friggen walkman.
what, do they just not realise it or something? the cube and newton are certainly failures and are discontinued, but Apple continues to bundle one-button mice with their computers. what's more, a lot of mac users seem to be perfectly happy with it.
i can understand it as a personal preference, of course, but what you like or dislike doesn't define failure, does it?
nV's tuning was clocking over a thousand points more than when it was blocked. ATI was still cooking their drivers at the time, but only to the tune of a hundred or so points. ATI has since removed any such optimisations from the catalyst drivers.
this criticism is pretty slack. it ignores the point of Crichton's diatribe - that being concensus is often used when there's no hard supporting science - in favour of a rib jab. E=mc2 is a quantifiable equation, as is the distance to the sun, and the effect of malnutrition. human affect on the environment, on the other hand, is not honestly quantifiable as the historical data is severely lacking in context. regardless of the simple fact that i'd look sideways at any scientist that claims we're not affecting the global climate, i'd probably look *down* on a scientist that claims it's proven.
does that dismiss human affect on climate change? absolutely not, but there are people who believe that questioning an absolute certainty of it does dismiss it. they're wrong, they're arrogant, and they're not learning from history.
By asking this question you raise doubt about the quality of the work without actually presenting evidence that only a minority of the scientists do serious work on this. But if you are driving an SUV a statement like that might seem insightful even though it's completely void of information.
what wonderfully circular logic. don't question an article for its lack of information, as doing so is devoid of information. wow.
aw right, i get to make a back to the future ref!

i use jvds.com and have had no problems in the year and a half i've had a freebsd vps there.
if you're going to be a pain in the ass, you should pull out all the stops and be a SEVERE pain in the ass.
and from whose perspective?

it can't provide rich multimedia experiences for me to become emersed in the product vision!

i coulda sworn you wrote "Internet Explorer" there
i don't find it suspicious that a bittorrent site thought it was going to be sued before they actually were.
come on, really now. they don't have to be psychic.
pick your battles.
from the docs:
Do not use Apache 2.0.x and PHP in a production environment neither on Unix nor on Windows.
a more than made up for it in the years since.

and i'm all "hey this is great" but quite quickly ran into "ok so what am i gonna draw?"
thanks, the blank white paper problem wasn't quite giving me the optimum level of frustration.

or young sidekicks for "comedic relief."
you mean like short round?
i've been digging shutterbook lately, if only that it behaves much more like a desktop application. which is neat. hooray.
are you suddenly faced with several billion passports that are no longer valid or what?
why, you'll be expected to work two hours longer, of course.
prove it. :)
