Nor does one have to broadcast outright fabrications to be guilty of misleading viewers. It's the stories Fox (and MSNBC, and CNN, etc...) *don't* air that contribute the most to their reputation for having a slant to the right, IMHO.
Whoever modded the parent "Informative" should take a moment to think about the true definition of 'fiscal responsability', and put that into context with domestic and world events throughout the time period covered by that chart.
Just because the Democrats got lucky to be in power during one of the greatest economic booms in our history, and avoided having to deal with major world conflicts like Desert Storm, does not make them any more 'fiscally responsible' than Republicans.
In 10 yrs we'll all be buying music on media other than CDs, and if we want the full CD pkg (after we already own some form of the music), we'll pay the extra $ to get a collectible, or some form of Cool Thing(tm) for our purchase.
CD's will be more expensive, but we'll buy less, and get more for what we pay for.
Oh, and we won't be buying at Wal-Mart, and the Lables won't be distributing them.:-)
If the movie portrayed the Liberals as the only idiots in the movie, you'd be justified in lableing the film "right-wing". But, if the movie takes shots at both left and right-wing camps, then the 'bias' is balanced, and in effect, eliminated.
I like your analogy, except for one part: a train can be argued to represent an essential need to a community. Here, we're talking about entertainment.
So, perhaps a better analogy would be 'sneaking into a movie'? (downloading it off the net?) The movie still plays, but if enough people dodge the gate,... what? No more movies? Or, not as many, but better movies?
If Star Wars was shown *free* in theaters around the world, George Lucas would still have got rich off the action figures.:-)
There aren't enough people (currently) who like to browse brick and mortar shops the way you do. There are many, many people who find the model like iTunes online shopping much more convinient. Therefore, traditional distributors are not adding enough value to justify their existence.
P2P distribution models add value, but not enough to support a whole industry like the big labels are used to. The grandparent's comment about structural unemployment is quite true. The RIAA's attempt to criminalize filesharing is akin to the buggy-whip manufacturers banding together to criminalize alternative modes of transportation, because it was 'their idea', and the automakers (and drivers) somehow were 'stealing' it.
Then why not boycott the RIAA instead of stealing the music? That way, the RIAA gets the message, and you're not depriving the artist of any income
1. Stealing Music - Sharing an.mp3 file is not "stealing music". If I steal something from you, I deprive you of what was once yours to do with as you please. Filesharing does not satisfy this definition.
If I steal your music, I am presenting myself as the author of your creative work, and attempting to pass it off as my own, for profit. Again, filesharing does not do this.
2. RIAA Feels Threatened - I'd be interested to hear how one could boycott the RIAA and still pay for 90% of the music you hear on the radio. RIAA and distributors/music lables are out to get file sharers because p2p threatens to supplant the status quo of music distribution models File sharers provide a service to the artist just like the traditional distribution vendors do: they disseminate the music to the masses. Artists make money not on the song (for the most part), but on the related business of merchandising and concerts.
Artists still make that money if p2p networks are allowed to flourish, and the people distributing the files exchange the value they provide via distribution, for the value of the song they get for free.
Any attempts to criminalize an exchange of music, (or art, or digital reproduction of any kind,) when the people sharing are not attempting to sell it, are nothing more than a thuggish cartel trying to bully the populace into adhering to a system that allows their parasitic existence.
Bon Jovi did something like this with their last album (Bounce). Not to the degree you propose, but a start: if you bought the CD, you got a pass code to the web site that gave you "inside access" to fan stuff, merch, and first notification for concert announcements in your area.
If indeed this was a terrorist pointing the laser, would it not be far more leathal if the laser was being used, not to injure the eyesight of the pilot, but rather, to paint the airplane as a target for a Man Portable Air Defense System?
Early generations of MANPADS that rely on the heat signature of the aircraft's engines are now much more easily defeated by onboard decoy/chaff/flare systems. A laser guided missle may have much better success rates vs hardened targets (civillian/commercial aircraft probably don't have countermeasures, yet, so this may have been a test?)
That said, 5 miles out of SLC airport puts most planes on approach paths at or below surrounding peaks. One could drive a high-powered system in the bed of a pickup to the top of surrounding mtns and fire away from a realively higher vantage point than the plane.
that Grenwich won't release the photos is because, contrary to Marvel's "official" story line, the real location of the Xavier Shool for Gifted Youngsters is within citiy limits!
Grand parent misses the point by trying to minimize the harm subjectivity and bias do to science. It is little consolation that science is the least pollitical field; the fact that it has become so badly tainted by personal ego and politics at all is a profound indictment upon a field that should be the ultimate bastion for pure reason and the un-compromising search for truth.
Grand parent's reply to parent merely showcases the arrogance and condescending attitudes that prevail among the scientific community's "elite".
OK, they fired upon planes dropping bombs on them.
No, the planes being fired upon pre-2003 were definately not dropping bombs, just patrolling the UN imposed no-fly zones. Yet Saddam's forces routinely put the lives of our pilots in jepardy.

It might be wise to keep in mind from where many Wal-Mart employees hail from. Your prank might backfire. :-)

I thought true moments of scientific epiphany have always been preceeded by:
"Son-of-a!... That's gonna leave a mark!"
