"Oh, my. I wish you had quit while you were ahead. People who really care about their kids don't let them play in the street, go dangerous places alone, or surf the Internet without adult supervision. No "V-chip" or Nanny-software is a substitute for a loving, present, involved, communicative parent."
Great point!
However, I don't believe that either the parent to your post, nor the bill as currently proposed, is designed to encourage lazy parenting. It seeks to give parents a tool whereby they can identify web sites that may have content of a questionable nature for a younger audience.
The bill is probably not a perfect solution, but it is at least an attempt to improve upon previous bills (Pennsylvania) that have proven to be too burdensome to ISPs or the First Ammendment.
As a parent, it would be nice to let my kids explore (unsupervised) a little on the web without stumbling upon too much crap. Kids like to explore without having their hands held by a grown up. To force a parent to constantly sit over their shoulder would in effect stifle the desire of the child to discover, don't you think?
Because people with nukes don't do stupid things (excluding the U.S. of course).
How the hell do you look at Pakistan and say they haven't done stupid things since they went nuclear??
Was selling their nuke designs to Iran and NK smart? Was supporting Al-Quaida smart? Is fomenting a rebellion in the Kashmir smart?
And with all that said, yes, Pakistan will probably prove to be MUCH more prudent than a government like, say, that of Kim Jong Ill. No one there will think twice about selling their technology to the highest bidder *cough* Osama *cough*...
...and not just because Iraq has oil. An armed conflict w/ NK will be an order of magnitude above and beyond the carnage we've seen in Iraq, and will most likely lead to a global conflict involving China.
Better we start with something less complicated, learn from the mistakes we make in Iraq, and get our millitary prepared for the much bigger job of fighting NK.
At the same time, you can exhaust all diplomatic options in Asia, so no one says "The US jumped the gun!" on NK, like they did w/ Iraq.
Nothing's more insulting or harmful to a homosexual (or any other individual who is challenged with a pathalogic condition) than to lie to that person and tell them 'they're ok'.
Society needs to show more compassion to individuals who struggle with same-sex attraction by helping them overcome their condition and lead normal lives.
"Please give even one example of a war happening primarily because of defense contractors being able to profit off of it. I can't think of a single instance myself."
...because, let's face it, you don't always feel like using a condom, even when you have one in your pocket.
But, by handing out condoms to your kids, you're sending a clear message that you're ok with them having sex, and that there will be no negative consequences to their choice to engage in intercourse.
I've seen this happen first hand. Mom gave daughter condoms. Daughter got herself a boyfriend. Daughter gets pregnant. Oops! So much for that pile of prophylactics sitting in her dresser drawer at home...
"...the stupid contrarian, the individual who is unwilling to accept the obvious but instead clings to the often illogical notion that there is always a deeper answer..."
That sounds to me like the hallmark of 'GroupThink', which is not a good thing. I am willing to tolerate contrarian, even "stupid contrarian" thinking, because quite often the contrarians do indeed wind up being the "visionaries" you so derride. No one says you have to belive them. Why advocate their suppression?
Or, what about if Human Beings evolve into a macro-organism, where individual human beings begin to act like individual cells in a larger organism, each focusing on a particular speciality to enhance the 'group's' performance in the environment?
Autonomy and individuality are sacrificed in order to achieve greater survivability in the universe...
March 2000 - first time in my career I ever received a raise in salary (without a change in company, or job title).
September 2000 - first time in my career I ever got laid off (from same company that gave me the raise in March).
Sigh...

Bill sets anti-porn rating system, Web registry
What's wrong with a public listing of adult content sites, and a way for parents to request that the sites be blocked from their Inet connection?

but when they're held for pleas^H^H^H^H^H robots
they're the balls that I like best!"
...just curious, what makes you think China would not respond to a US nuclear attack on NK?
thx.
Note to Moby Cock:
NK never had any intention to, nor did they ever, stop work toward building a nuclear weapon.
Thank you.

You and James seemed to have forgotten that a rogue state has indeed begun the disarmarment process, thanks in part to the US's tough stance on this.
Carrot and stick. The US doesn't need to be a bully, but being a wimp is no solution either.
Oh! And compy just peed on the carpet... :-D
Just curious...STSN?
