it is IMPOSSIBLE to create bug-free or totally secure software. Anyone with a BS in CS knows that. you can try hard...VERY hard, but there is always a loophole somewhere. Plus you can only spend so much money on a project before it becomes overbudget (even for MS. Its not how much money you have, its how much the project will bring in, in relation to how much it costs...)
The voice stuff is just a little missguided. You can already do so much with it now (more than I realized you could), how much longer until you can set keywords to launch programs, and then have keywords that do predefiend tasks, it might take a bit to set up, but I can see it happeneing in the future.
I think you are correct to a degree. But remember, too much control by a parent forces kids to act out and may push them further away / more destructive.
Like everything else there is a very fine line...that's the problem.
What's the answer? Hell if I know, thank God I'm only 22 and don't plan to have kids (or even get married) anytime soon. *phew*
funny, I thought the CGI was amazing...besides, it is ILM... and they have probably the best people in the industry when it comes to that kind of thing.
1. Don't live in the city. 2. Get a job ouside the city. 3. Take the train, 2 hr commute becomes 45 min (if you live in the outter most suburbs). Plus I'd like to know where you'd have to live that it takes you 2 hrs to get in and out of the city. 4. Not 3rd highest CoL. more like 5 or 6. You are forgeting LA, and Boston for starters. 5. Can't be THAT bad. I got 3 job offers from Chi-town all 50K plus (entry level, i graduate in a few weeks).
Sorry, I don't mean to appear attacking. I love that city and hate seeing people talk down to it because from what I've seen and heard from friends, its not THAT bad at all.
Its not all George's fault. From what I've seen, heard, and read most movies companies work this way. It is a sliding scale:
1st week - Prod company gets 75% of the profit 2nd week - Prd company gets 50% of the profit 3rd week - Prod company gets 35% 4th on - Prod company gets like 20%
I'lll say right now that i'm not 100% sure about my numbers, but I know they are very close. Does George always take 80% for as long as the movie is shown? Or does he follow the "industry standard"?
As far as the whole digital projector thing, I think movie theates would upgrade if more movie MAKERS would use the digital technology. I can only think of a handful of recent movies that would even be able to take advantage of the digital projection...
You gotta pay attention. In EPI its said that Yoda teaches the kids, during the very beginning of their training, for several years. Then tehy become an apprentie to a Jedi.
So Obi-wan did learn from yoda... he was just a wee lad at that point though.
The second Darth Vader came on screen in A New Hope we all *KNEW* he was bad. Covered from head to toe in black, face hidden, silently observign the carnage... please, at no point did anyone think, wow, this guys great! (well I did cuz i love the empire, but that came later).
maul's character was incidental. he didn't matter. He was a pawn of Sideous, the ultimate baddie. And I think Sideous is getting GREAT character development in the back story. Why? Cuz he's important. Maul wasn't, 'nuff said.
(sigh) this is going no where. we can bicker back and forth all night and day if you like, but nothing will happen.
my definition of a/.'er is a broad generalization of the people here. Code crazy, linux hungry, technology geeks. Not saying i'm not, but definatly not as much as most.
You/.'er means just that. 95% of the people who read this page jumps for joy and loses control of their blatter when something bad happens to MS. Just cuz I read this site doesn't make me a/.'er. I live in Chicago and do "touristy" stuff but that doesn't make me a tourist.
The (overly simplified) American dream is to rise up against odds and triumph over obstacles to make a difference (and money). Last time I checked MS did that. Quite well too.
Illegal tactics are up for debate. It depends on how Lazze Faire (i'm sure i spelled that wrong) your belief systems are. Any company would have done the same exact thing MS did in their place...and have. Why do you think we had all those "baby bells". And last time I checked Sony had similar issues a while back...All big successful companies do. Unfortunatly it is the curse of success. You do too well, people get pissed of and other corps get angry for whatever reason you want to name and knock them down a peg or two. After all, we have to put food on all our lawyers plates right?
A risk? Of course it is. This is the business world genius. They want a piece of the gaming market too. Same reason why Fox Studios tried to break into the animation movie industry with Titan A.E. That was a risk and it didn't pan out. That division of Fox Studios no longer exists.
Companies constantly do this all the time. That is why companies grow and competition starts / exists.
Just because Microsoft has enough money to give everyone in america two XBoxes and blah blah blah means nothing. You bash microsoft but forget about sony? Sony has their fingers in everything. EVERYTHING! games, tvs, cd players, cd roms, monitors,... the list goes on quite far. Microsoft on the other hand traditionally has a limited market that they are just now branching out of. Don't forget sony has cash comming out of their ears too!
Just because MS is rich and make a "crappy OS" as so many/.'ers have said doesn't mean its a crappy company. By business standards Microsoft is a perfect example of the American Dream.
So to get back to what my point was. Any time a corp. tries to branch out into a new area it most definatly IS a risk no matter how much money you have. The money they threw at this is quite an investment and contrary to what you believe, will make a difference on their quarterly reports... and that is something shareholds care about.
So is it a risk? You bet it is.
I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but its the truth. You/.'ers need to realise that corps don't make products to give people warm fuzzy feelings inside. They do it to maximize sharholder wealth, and that means making as much money as possible.
You're right! Only people who sacrifise real life for their virtual life should be catered to. After all, those are the people that really matter right? The ones who live in their mom's basement and live "life" though IRC romances...
Games are a release, therefore, you shouldn't have to put an ungodly number hours into it to get somewhere. something out of it, or to begin to have fun. In other words, go outside at least once a week.
sure is. It would be stupid to make that comparison if it weren't. I duel boot, about 50% of the time i'm in linux, the other windows.
So now i have to be a Linux admin God to ensure my system doesn't get compromised? wonderful.
(for the record I do like Linux more, I just have had more security problems with it it seems).
The quote is right genious.

I completely agree.

My linux box has been hacked 4 times...
Nothing has ever happened to my windows Machine...

"And the question is: How will this affect projects like OpenOffice release and the on-again, off-again McNealy Linux relationship."
Who cares!!! First priority is to get some new people in there that can make a difference and get their stock out of the shitter.

Ebert gives everything 3 stars now-a-days. :(

AMC South Barrington 30 South Barrington, Illinois
10 min from my house. BOOOYAAAA!

This was so last week...
No, they have aged 1/50 sec less than the rest of us. Time slows down when you go faster ... and I guess reverses when you go faster than c.
Quality European films like Brotherhood of the wolf? Take crazy somewhere else...we're all stocked up here.
I can't believe you just equated Bill Gates to Hitler...
What is wrong with you. Business Man vs Evil Murderer...
I hope you go to hell.

I guess this is what happens when you have an attention span and IQ of a dog.
Pffft...
Monkey Island. Best Adventure games ever. Plus they just had a new one like a year ago.
