How much would it cost to use Linux?

When was the last time you met a grade school kid who knew how to use Linux? Or a teacher for that matter?

These are your AVERAGE, EVERYDAY Americans. Linux is complicated compared to Windows. I'm sorry, but it is. So after figuring in the time, and effort to TEACH people how to use/teach others how to use the computers AND the money to hire someone who knows how to maintain the machines, the answer is MS because its the better solution.

And that argument about another generation of people using MS is such crap. You wan this to stop? Then these linux companies need to step up and make the OS dirt simple to use, set up, configure, and maintain. And the developers need to do the same thing. The avg. person is not a computer geek like you and me, but intimidated, lazy, uncaring, or confused when it comes to using computers.

Oh yea, don't knock anything that goes to education. That is one of the most important things in the world. So don't knock anyone or any corp. that helps it out.

When was the last time Red Hat or Mandrake gave 1.1 billion dollars worth of stuff away? Um, never...you need to make money first...and to do that your product needs to be main stream, easy to use, functional, and very user friendly...and well, linux is none of that.

Anyhoo, leave MS alone for this. Just sit back, mastrabate over the newest release of the Red Hat kernel, and go back to MS bashing tomorrow. Helping kids = good, no matter what company is doing the helping.

Is it cuz everything is open sorced about it? Who knows. Just don't be so hippocritical about it. There are just as many issues with Linux as there is with Windows. The only difference is that Microsoft is the big huge successful business, so it gets bitched at.

I wonder how things would be if Linux was the main stream and windows wasn't...

Now don't get me wrong. I'm not a MS fan at all. I just hate people who are so whiny and don't like looking at the big picture and end up being hippocritical about it.

I often feel sorry for the dead-end careers that it meant for Nichelle Nichols or DeForest Kelley. I often wonder when I will finally see the TNG actors in bigger roles. (Don't tell me that Brent Spiner's recent work was a stellar career. Why doesn't he get better roles? Or Marina Sirtis? Or almost any other Trek actor?)

Well, 7 of 9 is now on Boston Public.
Patrick Stewart is HUGE in the Shakesphere (sp?) community and has to many projects to list.
Michael Dorn is on Days of Our Lives quite a bit.
Brent Spiner has been in a few movies and is pretty big on stage.
DeForest Kelley was pretty old by the time that Star Trek ended (movies i mean), but has done many many things back in the day: go here. So really his career wasn't dead.

The list (I'm sure) goes on. You have to remember that just because you don't see an actor on a screen somewhere doesn't mean they are out of work. Lots and lots and lots of actors do stage work (that goes for well known and not).

    Hmmm...

That is assuming that the prices are the same there as it is over here...which it won't be. Its simple economics. Countries that have a higher GDP will "pay more" for goods than a country with a lower GDP (converting funds to the same currency that is). However in most cases you'll find that the price of the good is adjusted so that realistically two people (in different countries) actually pay "the same" for the good. By the same I mean the cost appears the same to each of them. ie) the person in the country with a high GDP pays a higher price than the other person. But looking at the big picture both people pay the same amount proportionally to their wage.
