  3. Authors & authority... on Project Gutenberg Blocks German Users After Outrageous Court Ruling (teleread.org) · · Score: 0

I think that both words 'author' & 'authority' are related...
Perhaps, initially. Someone that created something, was the only authority that could say if others used his invention correctly, or not. Or was responsible of any wrong use of his creation.
Then, when she sold her creation to other, the authority should extend to the new owner. But, in reality, depending on the complexity of the creation, the last word should belong to the creator.
Today, we might have missed the original point. And anyone that owns anything pretends to be as the creator. Extending eternally the rights of something that they might have bought but that they might not understand.
But who cares? It is now, only money...

  4. Transgenic Marihuana and Consumption on Daily Pot Use Tied To Age of First Psychotic Episode · · Score: 0

Studies of pot today should consider possible side effects of consuming transgenic marihuana. Who knows for sure that there is no side effects with it, compared with the pure and old herb?

Besides, today, use and consumption are not well differentiated words.

Antient cultures used to consider drugs as gods. They might have had less technical knowledge about science, but that should not diminish their knowledge. They used it on special occasions.

If today we use or consume drugs in a similar way as we 'use our actual gods' to get something back from them.
If we consume drugs to patch other existential problems that we need to solve. Then the god part of the drugs might act against us...

Like using guns. Guns are not good or evil. But they might become so, with our use.
The myth of drugs that started with inquisition should finally end.
Drugs have been part of the human existence since the begining of time. And forbidden or not they shall allways be part of us.

    Anecdote:

I used to work as a qualified data entry guy that had to collect all the household analyzed rating data and parse it into some excel sheets. After lots of graphs resulting from the data filtered by several customers targets, the result was one +200 hundred pages printed book personalized for each customer. Totaling near a thousand books every month.

The number of different results was so high that the algorithms should be heavily watched constantly. And I was never as sure as to not expect to find any possible mistake in any output. But from outside, my boss would only see a funny guy that was mostly always sitting down and doing nothing. ..
The idea that such a heavy and responsible job would look as doing nothing made me laugh a lot.

So much so, that I created a very nice button at the starting page of the Excel sheet that would do all the job without any hesitation. Without human checking any results before hand! But it was so tempting! It was my boss's point of view of my job...

As I expected, later I got fired. But then, I found out that that nice button caused them the lost of a lot of customers, until they decided to start doing all my work again from scratch...

And finally new that mine was really a busy job...

I guess that the only way is just ignoring those who still wish to earn something from what is not a crime.

Laws used to say that there was crime when there was proffit involved.
And humanly, every product belongs to all of us, not only to the one that stood over the others' shoulders to define it...
There was even a pope that said that stealing to learn or to help others was not a crime...

But sharing something freely with others, is only saying that we aknowledge that todays cost of life is pretty unfair.

Should this be discussed? What is the proffit of discussion?

  13. not less humans, less poverty on Humans Will Need Two Earths By 2030 · · Score: 0

The solution is to really end poverty as soon as possible.

Then, even non violent cultures tend to birth control authomatically.

The nuclear stuff is still boiling (sort of) and the concrete casting that surround what was the nuclear plant is expiring its license of security. So, they need to make a new box of cement that should surround the old one... (scientists don't know how to stop the boiling stuff!)

Besides, I saw a film of a guy who went there some years ago.
And found a 'strange black fish' that was living inside the lake near the nuclear plant.
There were also old people still living at the country near the town.
The army had tried to move them to other places but they insisted in returning to their only home.
And are still living there. And seem to survive for an unknown reason.

Local people have created a sort of myth associating the disaster with some parts of the bible.
So, they believe that in part was god's will what had happened...

    You should see the film!
