    Correct but that is pretty out of date. The Economist had a great article about the difference between rail in Europe and the US and concluded that our focus on freight was a far more productive allocation of resources. It is just that it is less visible to the public. You save more energy moving 100s of tons of freight on those tracks than a tiny amount of people at high speed.

    Seems like a painfully simple app to write for you programer types out there. My nokia has a meter but I've never reset it. It should have a field for billing date and update automatically. Also could have a reconciliation function and or link to carrier website listing of you use.

    Sony mastered the concept. WM1 had rewind, fast forward, two headphone jacks, mic, speaker, and, well everything. Soon after they had play, fast forward, and stop. So hopefully Apple will be suing itself soon too. I want a double iPod al la the WM-W800

    You have an event like Haiti or Egypt or the unthinkable and you fly a plane over the site and rain thousands of solar powered network nodes that can create a backbone, route voip, circuit switched voice, twitter, or what ever. The bandwidth, frequency processing power etc can all be cost driven but if you pre-seeded the society with network access points, cell phones, and the like with a compatible hardware model it would scale better.

    Government tries to turn off cell phones? Fuck em. Government kills the ISPs? just link the chain to a satellite or a border. AT&T makes you contemplate suicide? Just route through your neighbor's link to the tower.

    Now we through in computing power to boot. What do we get a ad-hoc, mesh peer to peer, internet with distributed computing. The only way Egypt could have blocked that is with some serious military jamming. LoS?

    The board member who said Nokia using Android was like a finish boy pissing in his pants proved that they have no concept of what is going on in the business considering MeeGo is hard to distinguish from Android from a board level view. Then they find religion, realize they are producing last generation crap, and then proceed to stick their head completely up their own ass by adopting a Windows platform. Following the pee in the pants logic somehow it is better to have Balmer piss in your mouth for a licensing fee, wtf?

    Nokia makes great hardware, I love my e70, e71, & e61. The n97 is a crapfest of biblical proportions, no one at Nokia used it ever before it shipped. It takes me 6 taps to call a person back if I use the touch screen. 6 fucking taps. In addition it doesn't automatically call back the number that called you. They have an alphanumeric keypad for SMS (on a qwerty phone) but don't for the dialer; want to call 1-800-Nokiablablabla? Too fucking bad, like it would help anyway they have one fucking service center for the entire US. Btw the hardware division has carte blanch over software... needs 22.6 MB for a app? Too bad you are only getting what hardware thinks you need. See n97 again.
