I know when I drive (and I do about 1000 miles or more a week. I try and keep it in my power band, I get from 1500rpm to 2200 rpm (which is 80mph at the top end for interstate). And I save greatly. And to say that a fast start is a good thing, is just silly in itself, look at any car computer and see what it says when you get above 2500rpm, you start seeing great drops in fuel economy. so slow off the line and steady on the gas the whole way and you will save.
When this was originally brought up, My company took to hiring lawyers and push for the.kid or.kids TLDs, if it is up to the WWW to take care for your children and not the parent, why not make a secure area for the child to browse in, not take a industry that i covering a LARGE percentage of the web sites on the net and force it to buy into a small TLD. With this said it would be easy to monitor one TLD to make sure its kid safe, and not have to monitor all of it to HOPE you caught all of it, We all know that porn sites crop up at very strange places,in fact they wait for domains that were used by churches and the like to expire and grab them up. I think all of that is wrong, but if we are going to leave parenting for the net to the net, put them in a back yard not let them roam the streets where it is possible for there to be so many things that would be so wrong for them. We wouldn't be talking about this if most parents were even paying attention to what there kids were doing, or locking there browsers up so they only could goto sites they were preapproved by the parents. And I am sure there is a web site out there that keeps a list of kid friendly sites that they could upload once a month to the list of approved web sites for there kid, but most of them couldn't be bothered.
And you are the one that is going to help out the teams out there making these drivers?? I believe that you about as dumb as it can get, lets make a situation out of this. I make a product, I make the drivers to this product ( Microsoft does not do this, they only get drivers added to there system), now I allow all user to do this, make your own driver I don't really care ( I don't know of any suits out there trying to stop this so I could be wrong), but if you want I will also support your OS platform if you want as well.
Now really look at it, the person that made your lawnmower tells you how to run it, you can put water into it, but they really suggest gas, may run or not run on water, up to you, but you get to try anything you like. I understand where you come from, and yes open source would be great, but you don't have to use closed source versions of anything, but you may get a lawn mower running on water.. but I would rather be able to play my games on Linux and play with all the cool XGL items, then sit there and get pissed or just operate on a command line. But then again you might like that.
I see this as a bigger scale form of a bit torrent, wouldent you receive several of the same package for different channels?
I could see this making mobile computing something more then it is, I know in the high end range of phones there are small computers basically in the users pocket, but this might allow it to become more of a standard and the phones we see as high priced will one day become the one we get free at sign up. If you also look at the state of DVD that we have today. The only industry to really use the second camera angle function, it is rumored to be the porn industry that actually lobbied the original standard makers for the dvd players to add in this feature.
I believe that the average person that buys porn these days isn't ashamed at all of what hes doing, the only time they even dubble think themselves is pulling into the parking lot of a store. Once that is over come they walk in and spend their money, that is why when the bars close there is a great increase in sales at all of my stores.
So in other words all the Internet is doing for the industry as a whole is over coming the social stigma of the city they live in.
I happen to run "Adult Book Stores" (porn shacks) and I have seen only a increase in sales due to the Internet, they bait them with a 10 second clip maybe the get a membership to the site then they are in my store buying up all of that actress that makes there mind go wild and POW I have cash in hand. The same works for the most part with me and my friends, we get the cams of new movies or the new album, and we are out buying it or sitting in a cola covered seat with that crying baby to go see the real thing.
I think this will make all the profit margins for the adult industry go up, and the RIAA should look into not being such raging pricks but nice calm porn CEO's:)
