Hmmm... When my engine starts making funny clicking sounds I usually turn up the radio so that I don't have to hear them. I will need to disable the clicking feature as my much delayed trip to the mechanic may get that much more confusing.
In general, I only have problems with fiddling with my Ipod while driving AND talking on my cell...:)
I am willing to accept the theory for debate purposes and willing to acknowledge that there are plenty of holes in our knowledge of the last few billion years.
In light of my open-mindedness and thirst for scientific possibilities, I would like the religious right to accept the possibility that, instead of some omnicient being intelligently constructing the universe, it might have been a giant 3 headed alien working on his or her 3rd grade science project.
find a search engine/email combo elsewhere which has a more "user-friendly" attitude (and doesn't track my every move)
I believe it is called the Dewey Decimal system and the Postal Service - it does not have the instant gratification that the internet offers but it will get you out of the house.;)
"I understand concerns that a reputation system might drive away paying customers who get bad ratings..."
Has bad Karma ever driven a Slashdotter away?? These types of community style initiatives usually work out pretty well and generally add to value to the experience but I don't think it would drive me over the pay/don't pay edge.:o)
Most of the whining comes from folks who don't want to pay a few extra dollars for the service.
I bought the XPS M170 laptop - don't want the bother of building my own but wanted badass gaming machine. According to Dell the XPS does get special service options - that service is based in India.
My intent was not to knock India so much as companies that expect something magical to happen just by going to India. If companies do not set up the appropriate infrastructure to enable the customer service folks then it doesn't matter where the phone is being answered.:o)
Yeah! More Clueless Dell Customer Service

Dell Expands In India

· Score: 1, Troll
I was speaking with Bob and Roy over in Bangalore regarding my brand new Dell machine just the other day and I have to say that while very curteous and well spoken they were completely clueless about resolving my issue - worse than that, no one could actually locate the machine that I returned for replacement.
This move does little more than increase the capacity for cluelessness, more seats in India is not going to help if they don't have the resources necessary to help the customer. Dell should refine their systems and processes before adding human capacity.
The interface is not all THAT clunky, but releasing in BETA for a very long time is generally what they do for just about everything. The Google search itself was considered beta for, what, close to 3 years... GMail is still beta and they have millions of Gmail users.
Now they big fat wallets - does that mean they will do things differently?
Microsoft has never marketed their products to IT folks as a primary user. If they had they would not have reached the dominance that they currently enjoy.
Step 1. Get the business users and executives on board - show lots of pretty pictures and whiz-bang niftyness
Step 2. Develop and sell plenty of books, training, and certification standards (yeah! yet another revenue stream)
Step 3. Shove product down the throats of the IT department
I remember nightmare roadtrips with my parents filled with sibling fighting, incessant "Are we there yets" and parental death threats like they were yesterday. When my husband determined that a family roadtrip was a good idea I had horrid flashbacks but he would not be swayed. I prepared by buying ear plugs; he just stocked up on strategy guides, headphones and batteries. As much as it galls me to admit - he was right. We drove 1500 hundred miles without a peep - it was incredible.
Who knew that you could log hundreds of blissfully silent hours playing various Pokemon titles?
I don't even think it is a matter of wanting to learn but capable of learning. I have been using a QWERTY for 30 + years. A while back I accidently swapped laptops with a co-worker from France and spent a month typing on an AZERTY keyboard - it was excruciating - it literally screwed with the way I think. The effort of adapting for just that brief period may have scarred me for life. I am pretty certain that at this stage of my career I have a better chance of learning Chinese than a new keyboard.
"The Beagle 2 lead scientist has been painstakingly studying images of the landing site in search of his spacecraft ever since it was lost on Christmas Day two years ago. "
Why? Is he going to run up and get it once he locates it?
Clearly he has spent too much time collaborating with the fine folks at NASA that kind of professional time-wasting may only be learned from an american.
AOL/TM knows my buddies, surfing habits, shopping preferrences, magazines subscriptions, TV and cable viewing tendencies - do they really need to know who I talk with on the phone???
I am probably giving them more credit than they are due but knowing that much about 40+ million people cannot be good...
In all reality, this is just driving toward another revenue stream for them. It is much easier to charge Spamers a fee to reach you than it is to get you to pay 19.99 a year for Mail Plus.
I purchased a washing machine on Sears.com this weekend and was charged tax - on the machnine and the delivery fee.
I don't care either way but if e-commerce transactions are going to be taxed then it should be more consistant - not just willy nilly taxation when a company feels like it.
The conversation usually goes like this...
Gamer 1: Hey, you gotta try this new game with us, everybody is doing it.
Gamer 2: Nah, I heard it will wreck your life.
Gamer 1: C'mon, just this once... you'll love it. Nothing bad can happen.
Gamer 2: Oh, OK... Just this once.
Later that day Gamer 2 steals Grandma's credit card for the monthly fees...
Until other games can be engaging enough to inspire that kind of behavior from the regular players they won't touch WoW.

FWIW
What? No more neck problems and stiff thumbs?
I find bloodshed and carnage very rewarding...
Yeah, if I can kill socially...
The closer I get to 40 the more I enjoy random violence and gratuitous gore... I can't possibly be alone in this
I am not sure what the fuss is about...

Maybe the goal of all of these legal machinations is to make it all so much work that it is no longer worth the effort to take the short cut.
My fav was the funky sex headgear from Demolition Man.

But seeing Stallone almost fake an orgasm was a pisser.
It brings a whole new meaning to CHAP and MS-CHAP. ;o)
