Word has it that it will ship without the ability to write CD-Rs, and without the ability to play or record DVDs. This is a GIANT step backward for Apple, who have been touting their DVD authoring capabilities for months.
What would've stopped me from renaming/usr/bin/whatever_they_forced_the_binary_to_be_nam ed to/usr/bin/ssh? The only way to tell if I have something on my PC which breaks the law is to break the law (hack into it) and find out...
Some of us wouldn't have moved to Texas *before* this announcement either. In fact, some of us would have to be dragged, kicking, screaming, or, perhaps, dead, to Texas.
There's a huge difference between a handheld point of sale terminal and a handheld device that lets you transfer funds from your checking account to your mutual fund. This lawsuit is baseless.
Problem is, will anything useful run on it, or will it be obsolete by the time it is release, because even a bargain basement Compaq pizza box unit will have more power?
Why not just ask "Do you have high-speed Internet access?" rather than "Do you have an rj-11 port with shielded twisted pair copper wiring leading to a DSLAM in the basement with dual redundant power supplies and a sump pump in case of flooding or other emergencies?" Ask something the people at the front desk can understand, and you'll find an answer more forthcoming.
The U.N. can't even manage itself or the myriad tiny problems around the world, what makes you think they'd be any more effective at managing the Internet?

I've got a WDC WD153BA (15 gig 7200 RPM ATA-100 drive) and now I'm more than a little scared that my HTTP/NFS/NIS/DNS/SMTP server is going to shit the bed without warning. Is there a list of "known bad" models?
