Sorry, but the release notes say "Updated applications" can take advantage of Quartz text smoothing. You'll have to wait until IE is updated in a few weeks (although it may be sooner than you think). But, Office X will definately take advantage of this feature with this past Monday's SR1 update.

The fact that the advertising is for Mac retailers means that whoever did this (Vicente Peiro Crespo?) did it with malicious intent! This was no mistake - I bet they are getting tens of thousdands of hits each day this goes on and making money off of our interest in the scandal. MacMall and Amazon should be notified about this so they don't pay these bastards.

  9. Re:Some reviews on Quickies from a Galaxy Far Far Away · · Score: 1

I just watched AOTC last night and it really was a good Star Wars movie. All the bitching about Anakin's part is realative to the story. His character is supposed to be a bitchy immature teenager - he's a confused kid who has no real social skills and it shows - look at his life story so far and its plain as day as to why he's such a pain in the ass. Same goes for Amidalla - she's royalty, you think the Queen of England was a dynamic person - she was born into roayalty and thats what she knows. You will see her character come to life by the end of the movie. She goes from a stiff Senator to a young adult in love, and she does a damn good job of it. All of the fears I had going into this movie faded very quickly when I realized how important this movie is to the series. Seeds that were sown in Episode 1 are sprouting and its exciting to see the forthcomming downfall of the Jedi and rise of the Dark Side. Overall, I say don't listen to these critics because they are not looking at it the same way a true fan would (your not supposed to like Anakin - he becomes a murderous villain, remember). As a Star Wars movie, AOTC is right up there with Empire Strikes Back - Its dark and vicious and I loved every minute of it.

Musicians like Wilco, Weezer, and Dave Mathews are proving that as musicians, you still can have a lot of control over your output and still be very successful. 14. Stay away from Sony. on Comparative Laptop Reviews? · · Score: 1

One thing I hope you realize is that no one here has anything good to say about Sony laptops. That is because they are the equivalent to one of those suped-up Honda Civics you see with the suspension dropped down and neon lights around the license plate and a mysterious "R Type" logo on the side. All show and no performance. It seems like you are in the market for a Windows capable machine, so I would suggest the Tecra line from Toshiba - they are great machines and aren't as bulky as the Dell laptops. Thinkpads are good, but compared to the Toshibas they are not as feature rich for the buck.

Not for nothing, but I was quite young when Jedi came out and I loved the Ewoks - they were something for me to appreciate and I found them very entertaining - maybe the kids today feel that way about Jar Jar. I didn't really appreciate the whole series until I was older, but those Ewoks really turned me on to the Star Wars Trilogy because of their childish appeal. I can see why George felt the need to include Jar Jar in the first Movie this time instead of the third - he wants the kids involved so they stick through all 3 new movies and hopefully watch the other 3.

I know I'm asking for trouble by replying to someone who can't even use their username to post (do you wear a white hood too?), but here goes: I work at the world's largest media company and I can attest that most of the Macintosh techs are leagues ahead of their PC tech counterparts because they carry much more responsibility - and get paid better too. They handle many more aspects of the business than your average pc tech and tend to have a better grasp on the latest technology in both the Mac world & PC one, as well as networking equipment, printers (ask a PC guy to calibrate a color laser printer and watch him squirm), and infrastructure. But I'm positive you have never even learned the Mac OS or its corresponding programming languages to cast a valid judgment anyway so I'll rest assured that you'll get modded down so quickly that no one else will even read your post and wonder what the hell I'm bitching about.

I really hope they give us:

  25. Great Consumer product. on New iMac Announced · · Score: 1

I know a lot of PC users will say that the specs are yesterday's technology, but they obviously have never had the pleasure of owning a Mac within the last couple of years. What you get when you by a Mac is so much more than a computer and the new iMac is a perfect example why. The original iMac was a fashion statement. It was something every college kid lusted after for their dorm rooms. This one is so stylish, that people will have them proudly diplayed in their houses, not just their kids' rooms. The fact that they gave the new iMac a G4 and an NVidia 32MB graphics card in that design is amazing to me.
