What I cannot fathom, is how could anyone purposely write a program to spy into my room, listening to me or watching what I am doing? Doesn't anyone have a conscious anymore?
Is there potential for someone to make money from it?
Just now I looked at my keyboard, and found a small hair between the Z and X keys.
I plucked it out, and thought it was pretty weird. I have shoulder length hair, and here i find a short and curley, rough textured looking hair about 1 or 2 inches long.
1 cd only for mandrake? you have to be kidding me.
I tried getting away with 1 disc on the latest release - then i realised packages such as half of the freakin gnome control center were located on disc 2.
If this finding holds up, and windows becomes non trademarkable, just wait for my brilliant marketing department to name the next product Winblows.
* They give the impression that their software is accessible to the masses (which, to a large degree, it is).
* The best way to make your product a household name is to derive it from a household name.
* Words that people are already accustomed to using are non-threatening. (Think about all the weirdass company names that you can never remember how to pronounce, let alone spell.)
And do you want to explain how you came to the conclusion that a cpu based on.13 micron and a SOI process is going to need advanced cooling techniques?
The whole business model is suspect! While companies like Red Hat scramble to create a viable services based model around their product (Red Hat network), Mandrake continues to try flogging off a free OS which comprises some 80% of their total revenues, then is late to the game tacking on a subscription service which some club which offers... wait for it...
* Club-only download of commercial applications normally only available in retail products (even before the commercial packages are available in the shops!).
* Discounts on products and special offers (would you like us to negotiate a discount on Sharp PDA or Win4Lin ?).
* A place in MandrakeSoft's "Hall of Fame".
* Direct trading of MandrakeSoft shares.
* Possibility to ask questions (and receive answers) in "Ask Mandrake" series. The first one was with Gael Duval - the creator of Mandrake Linux * Special Internet services that will be created by the suggestions of members (such as voting rights, special chat sessions with Mandrake team members, etc.)
So in other words, you pay for the privelidge of having them buy some commercial software for you and chuck it on cd, discounts on niche products which you're most likely not to want, direct trading of shares in a company which relies on BEGGING people for money to stay afloat, and the chance to hang around with our heroes in a chat forum! Well, hold me back, and let me slam my 5 bucks a month on the table right now!
Come on. I LOVE the distro, and have used it since 7.1. But to think that they're trying to run a business based on begging people, and floating shares in the company just to raise some cash to stay afloat - then have the nerve to put the onus on the users to keep them going with some 60 dollar a year subscription which gives you next to nothing is laughable.
just as i read this now there's a huge sourceforge ad, below the story and above the comments.
sure, it's huge, but if the ads don't get squeezed in between stories on the front page, or comments in the talkback, i don't see this as being too intrusive.
but then again, i'll make alot of concessions to justify not paying 5 bucks a month:)
Open sourcing their driver's isn't nVidia's choice to make, and they have pointed this out many times. Their is IP in their drivers which they DON'T OWN, therefore can't give it away.
fp!!!
Well, open source software is by far the easiest to hack, because the source code is actually available to you to hack with.
If you're talking about open source software being easier to crack, that's a whole different story...
Amsterdam and Alaska are separated by water, so I don't see how this can be a new land speed record, unless Jesus is involved.
Do you enjoy eating?

Yes.
Seems pretty straight forward to me...

I need to get out more.
I'm not complaining.

now what the hell am I going to say to get this sucker!!!!
Usually something like "hey, i'm the one who gets the bills paid around here" usually does the trick.
You've got a job... right?
I rate the Xbox as better than the PS2, but not enough software is out there yet.
So what exactly is your judgement criteria for a gaming console?
I'm as surprised as you.
I just thought they got banished to geek's basements where they spend the rest of their lives running sendmail.
unfortunately, intel and nvidia's production capacity would ruin your plan :( Laws of supply and demand would net a very healthy profit for MSFT.
it was noble tho...
That was lame...
(sorry)
I'm sure you think that last quarters Flash revenue of US$160 million, over 250 less than the year ago quarter, has nothing to do with it?
AMD does NOT need higher margin on their cpu's, they need a rebound in the flash market.
Is 320*480
just thought someone might want to know the truth...
The sims was bundled with a special gaming version of Mandrake, so there's an extra 3 copies sold right there...
Conclusive evidence that if every kid in the world listened to metal and played the guitar, we'd all be okay.
I kinda get the feeling that the terrorists had something to do with it aswell...
Well you see, at first looking at a bit of porn was fun now and then.
But now... I can't live without it.
