If you've got a multi-monitor set up, at least with 2 separate gfx cards (one AGP, one PCI), each one can have it's own D3DDevice object.
You can run them both at once:)
But 99% of games just use the primary device, and don't give you a chance to use any others...

It's *not* really designed for software implementations. This is a common misconception. Relies on depth buffers for sorting - which can be wasteful on memory bandwidth for software implementations (there are better alternatives in many cases (BSP trees, portals, bucket sorting)
After having a look at the spec, OpenGL ES seems -1, Redundant. Why not just aim for full OpenGL, starting with a 'MiniGL/QuakeGL' style implementation, of the sort which really got the ball rolling on the PC.
However, I believe it does include fixed-point maths support - very useful for all the ARM-based devices out there with no FPU.
It's a solo competition - no teams allowed, and all art/audio must be made during the compo..
Most freely-available libraries are allowed, including D3D, OpenGL, Allegro, ODE (physics engine), and various audio libs.
I entered the last two, and it is very good fun. Entrants range from game programming newbies to people with games industry experience.... But IMHO it's more about seeing what you yourself can achieve in 48hrs (with little sleep and loads of caffiene) than simply trying to beat the competition.
Well worth a go, if you can spare a weekend:)
Just hold you're phone next to a CRT or an amplifier whilst making/receiving a call, if you don't believe they can interfere with electronic equipment!
They do have seem to have to be within a metre or two for a significant effect, though....
A lot of people commenting on or reviewing iTunes keep neglecting to mention this rather important little bit of information.
So Europeans, don't waste you're time downloading it, unless you just want another ripper/player/library (albeit one with a rather nice UI, but at the expense of an awful lot of system resources!)
Does this mean there will be heavy civilian casualties, lots of property damage an eventually guerilla warfare with nothing much gained?
Once they start ruining people's lives with multi-million dollar lawsuits over a few downloaded albums, desparate people could well start doing desparate things....
(b) I'm not really 'stealing' it because it's still 'there' after I have taken it;
Exactly! Copyright infringement IS NOT 'THEFT' under most legal systems. Copying a piece of digital media does not deprive the original owner of it. Unfortunately, the penalties for this 'virtual theft' seem worse than those for real and often violent robbery, burglary etc...
(d) Everyone else is doing it, normal people who don't shoplift or anything, so it must be okay.
When vast numbers of people break the law, maybe the law needs changing. See 'prohibition'. Also 'speeding'...:(
Even if the parent post is BS, anonymous P2P using techniques like this do seem the next inevitable step in the P2P arms race...
Maybe there is some truth in it?
The XBox has an incredibly good TV-Out compared to most video cards
It's also much quieter than most PCs.
It makes a far better media player than my (much more expensive) Shuttle SFF system....
Linux gets in the way a bit:
The hardware (VIF/GIF) sees physical memory... The CPU sees virtual memory (through the MMU)
There appears to be no way to allocate a big block of contiguous physical memory under PS2 Linux
But there's a good chance that less informed gamers will play it, see how slow and unstable it is, and not bother with the full game.
Personally, I'm not interested in the game. It really looks like it's sacrificed the classic Doom gameplay (large swarms of enemies) for fancy graphics, and probably never more than 3-4 enemies at a time...

But with all those features, how big is it? if Microsoft wrote something with all those features it'd probably come on 4 CDs.....
More likely, it's got a watchdog timer that reboots it in the case of such a failure... but upon reboot it came up with....
Keyboard Error: Press any key to continue

No.... More like 'You've got jail!'
Repeat after me: Copyright infringment != Stealing
Will this just be news/education/documentaries? Or will it really include every episode of Doctor Who and Eastenders?....
Wouldn't 'free, legal TV entertainment downloads' result in absoloute outrage from the MPAA and friends? I can't see it ever happenning....
Well, that's one way to stop P2P.... No Power==No Piracy
No.... he just knows that the P2P networks will soon become self-aware, then the machines declare war against humanity...
:)

But the real question is, when does a purchase cease being your personal property?
:(
The moment it has a single byte of copyrightable software in it

Mod parent up! The Internet does also exist outside the 'land of the not-so-free-anymore'...
Explain to me how Grand Theft Auto is "bland" and "conforming".
They'd already done it twice before? It took 3 attempts to make it into a good game....
Regardless, it's bland and comforming because it involves mostly driving and shooting

So if you refill your ink cartridge, you're violiating copyright laws, and hence must be supporting terrorism...
Interesting idea, but with a major flaw: It would block important automated responses from, for example, online shopping sites...

Closely related to Fritz's CPDTPA - the 'Consume, But Don't Try Programming Act'
Buying US-sourced CDs from sites like play.com is cheaper than most sources of UK releases...
European music sales will plummet as far more people buy imports instead....
