"God does not place dice with the universe." I don't feel too bad siding with Einstein on this one.
If you accept true randomness then you accept effect without a cause. In otherwords, if some effect is random than nothing causes it. One nice thing about accepting randomness is that it removes the "first mover" paradox of the creation of the universe. So God can be thought of as a random event.
Unmanned Air Vehicles: I'm an aerospace engineer and UAV's are the next big thing. I shudder to think of swarms of semi-autonomous 6 inch UAV's buzzing along carrying a couple of grams of this stuff.
Their acceptable use policy defeats the purpose of the haven?!
HavenCo said on Monday that its acceptable use policy "stands as originally written. However it is the case that principality law forbids any act...which is against international law, linked with terrorism, or contrary to international custom and practice. These restrictions are in keeping with those found in any country."
I agree completely. I'm amazed that this got modded up. I used to complain, but I gave up. All I ask is for acronyms to be defined. I now just live with it and consult everything2.com
"Not Supported" has been replaced with links to linux drivers. So I would say that complaining on Slashdot is much more affective than contacting customer service:)
Contrary to popular beliefs, the space race was about developing the technology of ICBM's. The astronaut on the moon saluting the flag was just the dance in the inzone after we race was over. The recently released Kennedy tapes prove this incontrivertably.
So with that said, there can be no race with the U.S. That race is over.
Sadly this is still not the holy grail of the unmodified box.
The only hardware modification necessary is a dollop of solder on the write-enable pads on the motherboard.
It's because of the added solder that the group isn't eligible for the $100,000 prize being offered to the first person to run Linux on the Xbox with no hardware modifications at all.

Why should you organize yourselves just to quit. A better solution is to quietly agree to stop working so hard. Perhaps you could slowly start leaving earlier and/or coming later until you get back to 40 hrs/week.
...you just might get it. As an aerospace engineer who spends all of his time programming, I used to think how wonderful it would be when aerospace companies would allow telecommuting. However, now we are faced with competing with workers from countries with much lower costs of living than the USA, like Russia, Poland, Ireland, and India. So I may ultimately have wished myself right out of a job.
Ok, now don't get me wrong I think Draper is very cool. Indeed, he is in a class by himself. But this tripe about crackers just being messengers--are you serious?
A karma whore? Ha. I could give a shit less about karma. If I did this would also be an anonymous post. I work for NASA and would dearly love them to switch to Opensource office products to end my Word hell. I personally use LaTeX all the way!
The month before they made the switch to "popular science" I had just renewed for 3 years. So I wrote them a letter complaining about it and they offered to refund my subscription---so I took them up on it and haven't looked back.
I accept your critique on my knoweledge of Japanese history. But when you say, " It was only the belief in the divinity of the Emperor that kept the common people from demanding more of a voice faster." That's a pretty big "only" since most people tend to stick to their religous beliefs.
As you know, it's only the belief in Islam the directs many to fight against secular governments.

Democracy is a culture which can only be learned by experience in a long time. You can't just put democratic institutions into a country and expect it to work without some democratic seeds in minds.
I wouldn't have a problem with it either if it didn't require that I copy the entire contents of the CD to my hard drive *and* require the CD.

Sadly, the title of the book is becoming an oxymoron in the USA.

That bold bit pretty much covers everything.

What's up with that sir name? Kind of ironic.

Seriously, I thought that was the only purpose for BASIC?
Let program with BASIC then move on to Java for modern concepts.

When was the last time someone crashed their Super Nintendo?
Actually, my game cube has crashed on several occasions with SSX tricky and other games.
And so, what are they going to pursue you for 37 cents. If your worried, send it back empty, then you can claim it was a mistake.

Can somebody please tell me why the original comment was modded down to oblivian? It was an honest opinion.
80,000 PC's. Good lawd! Imagine the savings this company could reap by switching to Linux and some kind of OpenOffice product.

What's funny is that he knows he is really screwed if that disk fails - you can't copy it because of the 8-sector format
Actually you can copy it. You just need a "bit copier". I know because I did it way back in `82.
Nothing I like better than to read the ramblings of a crack-head. I'm pissed at Ford, so I'm now I'm going to walk to work. Yeah that makes sense.

Sure you can. We did it in Japan.
