    Well did you read the article? The article quotes academicians, and they are pretty candid in admitting that they are not ready yet.

    Even the headline says "Space Scientists Say China's Mars Probe 'Years Away'".

    It definitely doesnt sound like propaganda.

    Back in the day, everything sucked :P

    14/28Kbps modem, crappy/crashy OS, abysmal file-system and shoddy browsers.
    A bookmark taking up 32KB should have been the least of the troubles for Windows users.

    Two points :

    Some people like to have a URL ("Favorite") on their desktop/quicklaunch/etc..

    It's nice to have all your browsers picking up their bookmarks from a central location ~/Favorites ..importing bookmarks Sucks.

    It's messy agreed, but looks better than having dozens of configuration files for each browser.

    I dont agree with your disk-space argument however.

    Simple. Prevention. Three things come to the mind when designing production systems.

    1) Capacity planning- estimate how much you need, and buy double that much capacity.

    2) An alert triggering system which fires when utilization goes beyond a threshold.

    3) Automated housekeeping based on pre-defined retention periods.

    All these need to fail before triggering a production incident.

    CLI based, but some front-ends are available too.
