  1. Re:Problem with commercial Debian on LinuxOrbit Looks At Libranet GNU/Linux 2.7 · · Score: 1
I still cringe every time I overhear somebody asking for help with their Linux problems, and the first thing out of the "guru's" mouth is, "Which version of Linux are you using?" Not kernel version, not software versions -- Linux version.
And what is the problem with this? Wouldn't a perfectly good answer be "I am using Red Hat 7.2" or "I use Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 (`potato')". These are "versions of Linux", yeah, they are "distributions", but they are versions too. There are lots of versions out there, and the "guru" should certainly find out what it is that they are helping with.

Uh, yeah, and your point is? Someone who owns the content can rightly choose to require DRM-ish stuff to be enabled in order to "consume" their content. If you don't like that, then you don't have to "consume" it. You are free to choose what you want to enable, they are free to distribute as they want to, everybody's happy 8^)

Plus, this drive may be so new that they have tested it with high-speed media, and it will not burst into flames 8^)

Being from Sony, though, I would be cautions about any DRM features that the drive may have hidden deep inside that firmware...

It's just amazing how many technology "managers" cannot comprehend the silliness of mandating a schedule and a feature set. You might get it by then, but it will be a piece of #@%$.
