I think the key isn't reducing the number of calculations, but changing the final decision process.
For example a chess playing AI will make lots of calculations in order to deduce the best possible move. Along the way it has already found the 2nd best, 3rd best, etc. etc.
Just add an algorithm to the final pre-move analysis and, every once in a while, have it choose the non-optimal move. Tweaking the parameters (e.g. which non-optimal move and how often to not pick the best move) would result in a weaker or stronger opponent without making it obvious it's AI.
Only corporate laptops get to connect to the VPN. Period. No exceptions.
Laptops aren't much more expensive than desktops these days, so it's pretty easy to get a user that has a demonstrated need for remote access a laptop. That way I still have control and they get access to the network.
Other than that, the standard AUP is extended to encompass the corporate PC, whether it's in the office or remoting in.
A lot of people haul out the old 55mph chestnut when economy and fuel efficiency is brought into question, and the simple fact is that the 55 mph law was put into effect when very few cars had overdrives or auto transmissions with more than 3 forward speeds. Since the law was repealed, cars, engines and transmissions have been designed and improved to work optimally at higher speeds.
Disable volume control, load up a wav that screams "I'm stolen" in a loop, then after a couple of minutes trigger a program that reformats the hard drive and puts a garbled GRUB loader in the boot sector.
Essentially, brick it after letting the thieves know you know they stole it.
I call bullshit on your Joomla claim. Show some stats. Looking at Security Focus I see less for Joomla than many other CMS platforms and almost none for 3rd party components. Truth is, Joomla team is extremely proactive in patching issues with their software, which is more than can be said for lots of pay-for webapps.
If you're sharing space with network and server equipment, you need to make sure that there is some sort of sound barrier between the equipment area and your working area. Otherwise you will go nuts.
Also make sure there's lots of A/C ducting near the equipment, it generates a lot of heat.
So this is how you get the low-UID people to post. Congratulations. Also to OP.
zzzz....snrrrkk.... eh? what?
not with a bang, but with a whimper.
... except every day is April Fools Day. Seriously.

An answer to a question nobody was asking.
Imagine what this guy could have done if he had a decent education.

I use their 7.5 network scanner system with the TCP server and didn't have a single machine on the network (50+) go down.
I don't know if that's good or bad.
It's a hell of a drug.
...a vote for McCain is a vote for Hitler and a vote for Obama is a vote for Marx.
Can't we all just get along without the jingoistic, hardline bullshit?
looks up at teh awesome bar (cough).
looks at uid.
sighs.
I know what you mean.
It really depends on the type of software and the target demographic.

What diseases that crossed the species barrier in the last 30 years will we be talking about in 2078?
None. We'll all be dead from the Captain Trips by then.
You're wrong. Your comparison with Diebold does not even merit cursory contemplation.

Some really great solutions are out there for people who don't want or need to design a site from the ground up or take a year of web design classes.
Joomla, Mamba, many others. You don't need to know web design to do these. You do, however need to know how to either:
a) set up a linux LAMP setup or
b) get a hostmonster.com type account with PHP and MySQL access.
Other than that it's really nice. Pretty mature and at least Joomla has lots of 3rd party components, free ware and commercial.
"I don't know what happened, I must have missed a decimal point or something..."
Try Kinakuta.
Guess you never saw Men In Black, then.
Gives a whole new meaning to the word "furry".

...that Circuit City is a prime example of everything that is wrong with technology retailers.
I thought it said "fossilized hairdresser" when I first looked at the headline. THEN I thought "Wilma Flintstone".
Welcome to Surreal Monday.
