Optical, coaxial - whatever, it's all digital, boys & girls. The ones and zeroes - and therefore the sound quality - is the same.
If you lay it flat, sure. But studies have shown that when cheaper cables have been coiled, or even (to a lesser degree, admittedly) routed 90 degrees, that the zeros work OK, but some of the ones get "stuck" or delayed. Obviously with the more expensive optical cables this can't happen.
What year? I thought the manual override on BMW's was the inside door handle itself.
89. If you mean simply operating the door handle normally, then no. If there's a manual override I couldn't find it. The owner's manual was misplaced by the previous owner.
Three days ago I was trapped inside my BMW 535i. It had been having some electrical problems, such as the windows occasionally not working, and the door locks behaving erratically. The other night it all came together at once, and I could not get out of the car. The windows would not open and the door locks would not budge. To my further frustration I realized had also left my cell phone at home.
The car was still operational, though, so I drove to a friend's house and eventually got their attention. Two hours later a locksmith finally got me out. In the mean time I had to sit through each passerby feeling compelled to go around the car and try every door, and then signal me to pull up on the lock. As if somehow no one had yet thought of that. It was a bit like waiting for an elevator, where each new arrival feels the need to press the button.
It is impossible for language to decay by changing
Of course it can. When a word is misused in a way that it becomes equivalent to another word, then its nuance is lost, and the language becomes poorer for it.
I realize that now would be the time for me to cite examples, but none spring to mind. They are out there, though:-)
A less than perfect recent example - awesome. It is losing its meaning of something so extraordinary it inspires awe, and is coming to mean merely interesting or pleasing. Well, we already have plenty of ways to say that, but now it is becoming more clumsy to express the original idea. As meanings slop over each other, precision is lost.
I would be willing to bet that a majority of people would read the subject of my story, and still assume that 'virii' means 'more than one virus'
Even if you'd written 'vayruss' the majority would still think you meant more than one virus. It wouldn't be right, though. Precision in language is a quality preserved only through proper use. Sloppy use makes language less valuable.
will "solve all your problems" and make low-level coding obsolete. The intro text made it seem like this was another one of those misguided zealots.
So, yeah. It's a hot button.
Hey, we could write a program that would check for stories like that and have it automatically respond. If we did it right it would make all this low-level posting obsolete.
You need something to do A, and the product does A, B, C, D, E and a little bit of F. Well, are you going to pay for that, or roll your own to do A and be done with it.
Well personally, even when I'm just looking for A or B I could always use a little bit more F.
but they'll completely miss the hits that are successful because they remind people of something they liked a long time ago, or even -- gasp! -- because they're actually original.
Making an omniscient program is rather difficult. If their method works better than the current one, either by being faster or more accurate, then it will serve its purpose. Many many good songs never get heard now. The notion that this algorithm will also exclude good songs doesn't mean that it won't be useful. The long term affect? Well, it's not exactly like pop music is wonderful now, and this is going to spoil it.
Actually someone else wrote it, but he came up with a new arrangement.
I think it was his idea of humor.
That's the performance, not the song itself.
No kidding. My cable modem gives me a whopping 12K/sec, and goes out several times a month.
Of course not. They would grade on the creativity and artistic impression. How is spelling is involved in collage making anyway?

Oh really?....Say, you wouldn't have two tens for a five, would ya?
Oh please. If your children had to sit through daily rituals of some other religion you'd be screaming your lungs out.
Sounds a little more like a cat than a cow.
That would be "wrongly correct others' usage."
Pretty good. First time I've smiled since it happened. :-)
Not exactly. Just because a post is considered to be trolling, it doesn't mean that you yourself are a troll.

It's an 89. It's for sale. I'm asking $8,000. Interested?

And others are merely pointing out that it has not reached common use. And they are merely trying to slow the further decay of the language.
And just how exactly would they be able to record the camera being smashed?
+43, Insightful

You misunderstand. Windows is not evil, just crappy. It's Microsoft that's evil.
Gotta be a troll.
