  1. Wireless Security on Intel Ranks Colleges with Best Wireless Access · · Score: 2, Informative

Indiana University may be ranked #1, it must be said that Purdue (#2) has secured their wireless. Last I checked IU uses WEP. Purdue uses a VPN-secured connection where all of the wireless traffic is encrypted using 168-bit 3DES, as compared to the 128-bit or even 40-bit encryption offered by WEP.

I imagine this is because it's physically impossible to continually smoke enough in succession to reach a lethal level. I just wanted to chime in and say that Medicare is the worst. My father is an Anesthesiologist and estimates 30+% of his medicare cases he works for free. Yes, that's right, only 7 in 10 cases does he actually see any money from because of the high rate of denied claims. I don't think anyone here would be happy getting paid only 28 hours for working 40. So with his 70% he then pays 10% to his billing company and another 20% to malpractice insurance, 40% income tax, well you get the idea. My point is, don't assume all doctors make boat loads of cash. The medical industry needs serious help, but who has the answer? We're quickly getting to the point where premiums are outrageous and only the rich will have insurance.

  7. Re:Good intentions, bad implimentation on Minnesota Senator Says Email Tax Might Reduce Spam · · Score: 1

Agreed. Fight technology with technology. So far the best solution I've tried is Greylisting. Since implementation SPAM is almost non-existant for us. It works by initially delaying (temp fail) incoming e-mail. When the sending mail server retries after X amount of time they will be automatically whitelisted for future mail so as not to be delayed. This is effective because 99.9% of spammers don't use mail server software that retries failed sends. It's too costly for spammers to retry sending failed delivery attempts. It seems to me most SPAM is a "hit and run" campaign.

What staggered me about the list was that CEO's as a body weren't included. Yes, the CEO's of underperforming companies are horribly overpaid, but you can't tell me that Michael Eisner actually did work equal in value to $700 *million*. Honestly, I rather doubt that its possible for anyone to do work worth 700 million

While I agree on principle; how much work is $700 million? The pay rate for CEO's are derived from simple supply and demand. Strategic planning and vision may not equal $700 million in labor, but you're paying for their expertise and experience. Not just any joe off the street can walk in to a Fortune 100 company and become CEO. Most of these overpaid CEOs have been CEO's, Presidents and VP's of other Fortune 500 companies. When they walk on making over $50 million / year they are doing so bringing much experience and wisdom with them.
