Nice. I grew up in Walnut Creek. We since moved to Arizona that is less than half the cost of living and still have nice weather. In fact, Arizona has seen a large influx of new residents (mostly from CA)
Drug dealers don't fear the DEA, they fear legalization. Make drugs legal and related crimes will decrease. There will be no need for drug smugglers, dealers, etc... The street price will fall through the floor, illegal drugs will no longer be profitable and the problem fixes itself.
People in other civilized countries are getting better health care cheaper because they have socialized.
I'm not even going to debate your comments as your statements are completely ridiculous. It's undisputed that the US has far superior health care than another other country. We lead the world in health care research, innovation and technology. Good health care is not cheap.
I'm tired of everyone bashing large companies, especially Walmart. Last year Walmart had 258 billion in revenue, paying over 5 billion in taxes. People are always complaining about unemployement.. well just think about how many jobs walmart stores create. Benefits are usually better with larger companies. I work for a small company and health insurance I pay out of my own pocket. Unless you're a communist, capitalism is good for our society. Nobody makes you shop at walmart, so if you don't like them, don't shop there. Personally, I enjoy the lower prices.
Nothing to see here. Basically a corporation suckers them in to over paying for some microphones and tape recorders. Really no different than Oracle charging California $90 million for some software. I highly doubt the technology is really as advanced as it is hyped.
What are the min specs required to install this service pack? Quad Xeon? I can reinstall windows xp in less time it takes to apply "patches". Is it patching the entire O/S?
I figured that, but I assume the colocation costs are negligible. You can get a full rack at a colocation facility with unmetered bandwidth for $500/month (ev1). According to netcraft, it appears they only have around 12 servers.
Well Craigslist finally made it to Indianapolis, and it sucks. The only buy/sell ads listed are SPAM. Perhaps this could change in 5 years, but doubtful.
That's just a little scary. I have a friend in the military overseas right now. When we want to chat in private, we use talk over a 1024bit ssh2 connection. I'm starting to wonder just how strong that really is.
How do they plan to tap encrypted VOIP traffic? Of course the majority of phone calls won't be encrypted. However, the criminals that would be tapped I assume would use end to end encryption?
It's a necessary skill if your job requires it. If your productivity is measured on how fast you can produce 'X' on the computer, then yes. If someone with the same skills can type faster then you, you'll likely be replaced.
I'm a programmer. If it tooks me a week to type out a few thousand lines of code I'd be out of a job. I probably couldn't type as fast as I do today if it wasn't for learning proper use of the keyboard in school.
I haven't noticed much of a drop. My small mail server handles a few thousands messages a day and if you look at the graph, spam has been steadily increasing over the last 9 months. Rejected emails are represented by the red line. I'm also on comcast and blocking port 25 for everyone would be a good thing. With new worm infections it must be a daunting task for them to keep up. I use Sendmail which by default also listens on port 587 which is handy for many of my clients who are on networks that block port 25 (eg: charter)
I have overhead florescent lights in my office which are way too bright. Does anyone know where to buy those honeycomb or cubed covers which make the lights directional and therefore reduce the overall brightness in the room?
Programming isn't like learning how to knit a blanket. You're either adept to programming or your not. I'm tired of hearing from people who think.. hey I'm smart, I could do that. No, you can't. It takes a special kind of person and way of thinking to be a good programmer. I like to compare it to singing. Sure, I could take vocal classes to train me to sing, but will anyone ever pay to hear me sing, most definately not.
It's not just the geeks that carry the high priced gadgets these days, it's everyone! Keep your toys as hidden as possible. Anyone with a cellphone, ipod, pda and pager hanging off their belt deserves to get robbed and beaten for being so gay. People live in so much fear these days, sad really. If something is going to happen, its going to happen regardless of how prepared you may be.
"Personal Defense" ammunition typically refers to hollow point bullets which are designed to expand once penetrating the target. The expansion of the bullet transfers all the energy to the target causing massive damage. Non defense loads are usually FMJ (full metal jacket) which have a solid lead core. These bullets will pass straight through the target.
All our backend servers run Linux and open source software. The money we have saved using open source software has allowed me to hire additional programmers. Yes that right, I'm creating jobs here in the U.S. How can someone tell me that's unamerican and bad for the economy? Whos right is it anyways to tell me I can't give something away for free.
If your just starting your job search now, you're already way behind. The people who are making good money right out of school are the ones who worked full time during school. People wonder why they can't find a job after graduating college. You know what, there are thousands of people just like you with the same experience competing for a handful of jobs. You need to be different than the rest, and to be different that means skills and experience. If your a college freshman reading this, start looking for a job this summer, instead of drinking beer and partying. Get an internship or co-op and you'll be the one laughing at graduation time... (I speak from experience)

Sprint already offers microwave in the valley.

As long as they keep targeting Suprnova and similar sites I'm not worried. All the good torrents are kept on private trackers.

Is 50 words per minute suppose to be good? I can easily double that on a QWERTY keyboard.

This is the first time I've ever considered using a proxy outside the US to view content. Isn't usually the other way around?

I have a 6,200 sq/ft house which I can barely cover with 2 APs. Any suggestions on brands or commercial attennas?

I'm glad my alma matter is hard at work solving the world's most pressing issues.

The University I attended did this with their student directory.
