I do, too. The point, though, is that those looking for alternatives now are using the Windows version of Picasa. They aren't looking for an alternate operating system - they just want to replace the functionality of the abandonware.
This is purely for the teachers interested in presenting CS50 AP to their students - that is all.
From TFS:
By the way, the CS50 AP Wiki contains a CS50x/CS50 AP Authorization and Release form which, among other things, requires camera-shy CS50 AP students to agree to "sit in a 'no-film' zone" if they do not want photos or videos of themselves used by Harvard to promote the Microsoft-supported course.
From the agreement: "I understand that my teacher will take reasonable steps, with my cooperation, to avoid including identifiable images of me in the Recordings. I understand that I am free to opt out of the Recordings in this way, and that doing so will not affect my grade or my ability to participate in course activities. Unless I opt out of the Recordings as described above and take the steps that will be outlined by the instructor to avoid being filmed, I authorize Harvard and its designees to use the Recordings. I understand and agree that the Recordings may include my image, name, and voice. I also understand and agree that, even if I opt out of the Recordings, my spoken name and voice may be picked up by microphones outside any "no-film" zone and may be included in the Recordings.
Also, the form (complete with legalese) linked from the summary has a signature block for the Student (or Parent/Guardian). I guess it's Ok as long as they don't steal the kids' candy.
Uber/Lyft have very little to do with tech (but they have SERVERS!) and the whole gig economy which they represent is poison to tech workers. Piss on them.
As for Austin, they should - and will - do what's right for them without giving a rat's ass about what slashdot thinks.
I think you're right about the poster's intent. However, IMHO Gnome 3 is still that built-for-tablets bullshit that has no place on a computer. Just let the user have a desktop paradigm for cryin' out loud. Yeah, I know...I can use a different desktop. I do.
In Flint, MI this idea would go over like a lead balloon.
You know how they say, "This changes everything"? Well, this doesn't.
Your CPU fan may be installed upside-down.
This sort of acrimonious shite causes me to question the value of AC posts.
Maybe there should be a "Registered User Posting Anonymously" that gets a score of 0 while AC posts get a score of -1.

Is this really the year of Desktop Linux?
Picasa ran on Windows so these, for the most part, aren't alternatives at all.
I was kind of pissed when I first read the article (okay, the summary) but, it only applies to IE. So, no real impact at all.
Turning it ON again is a bit more tricky.
It sounds more like Georgia Tech created a new religion - complete with a savior.
The use of "poop" and the HS level vocabulary puts the term "colonizing" in question.
Nice job, comrade. That was 11% better than a random word generator.
Wow. You must have some pretty damning evidence that allows you to brand every policeman in Turkey as a criminal. You should publish it!
I wonder how many people get the cultural reference (to Burma Shave, not faggotry).
Thanks - that was clear and concise!
Wouldn't it be a lot easier to use a gram or micro-gram or some smaller sphere?
Yeah, that sounds great. Scratch your ass and get your phone robotically implanted.

How can it be legally binding to have K-12 students sign an agreement that gives up their privacy?
Gee, sorry. I thought it was about making money by competing against existing taxi businesses while playing under a different set of rules.

That could lead to some confusion because one "Windows 10" is transparent...

There IS evidence but it hasn't been brought forward because there's no real upside to getting dead.
I don't think the Navy conducts a lot of operations in the desert.
I don't know what is creativity...but I can still sometimes catch the ball.
Wow, I bet you can do things few others can manage - like catching a ball.
