  1. Re:Genetics and exercise on How Much Sleep Do You Really Need? · · Score: 1

Interesting. I find just the opposite. When I exercise I need more sleep. I hypothesize that I'm breaking down muscle and my body needs the time to rebuild. This is especially noticable when I have hard work outs.

How hard do you excercise. Maybe the key is light exercise?

Your right, Rear channel is more correct. If I recall the rear channel is just encoded as a common signal between the fronts dropped by 3db.

The -3db makes the mpeg audio think it isn't important and it filters it out. Tivo should look for this when encoding and adjust the levels somehow.

Man, I didn't even think of that. I hate when AV components that are non-standard sized. They really do screw things up in a cabinet.

Maybe they should come out with a 15-17 inch adapter :).

Anyone see mention of audio improvements on this beast? I love my Tivo but the audio really sucks. Rear channels essentially disappear. I'm told this information is lost because the mpeg encoding algorithms see it as not being important.

    Howdy,

Have you thought about having a docking station for your laptop? They are fairly compact and, at least my DELL model, allows PCI cards to be inserted.

This way you could use a cheap PCI sound card and stick with your laptop. All of this in a compact footprint.

I was about to buy one of these beasts until I found they have altitude limitations. Can't remember the exact number but I do recall that many of the hikes I go on here in Colorado were above the limit.

I believe the issue is that a disk head floats on an air cushion. If the air gets to thin it will touch the platter.

It will have its applications but certainly not in the digital camera/mp3 player market.

The advantage of the digital camera is that you can take a crap load of pictures to get a few good ones. You delete the others. Why would I want to start paying per picture again? Yes I have to back things up but thats only pictures I choose to keep.

Same things can be said for most digital devices consumer devices.

Anyone else remember his comments after the Gulf war. Iraq had ignited many wells in Kuwait. I remember Sagan predicting the whole earth would be stuck in a senario similiar to a nuclear winter.

I lost the little respect I had for him after that.

    Just some old Slashdot hype.

For some reason many game players feel threatened anytime someone says kids shouldn't play violent games. Just look at the number of "I played them and I turned out fine" posts.

The bigger question people seem to ignore is if the government should be making any of these decisions for us. Should it be giving grants to anyone or should the citizens keep their money and decide where it can be used? Same argument goes for art.

Lets shrink the government and keep it from having this power of us.

An embryo certainly doesn't meet any of the common criteria for human life. It doesn't have a heart or a brain, it doesn't feel pain. I already mentioned the twinning problem.

You have entered an area I've been thinking about a lot lately. You are right, and embryo doesn't seem to meet many of the criteria. The question is when does it become a life? The process of development is gradual. To chose any single date opens up the simple question "why not the day before?" To choose any date is going to end up being somewhat arbitrary. The only safe way is to say it is a life at fertilization.
