The lan parties I've been to at friends houses are first and foremost social events. They are usually accompanied by a keg and a table of snacks which everyone contributes to. Being an all out geek fest people tend to bring their favorite gadgets and such. At any given time there is a small group not playing and just hanging out.
The last one I went to actually had a female. Yes slashdot....a female. Times they are a changin.
I haven't done the reasearch on the Mac yet but I find it hard to imagine it won't be full of DRM crap. The great thing about Myth is that you can do whatever you want with your content.
People will switch when everyone else switches. Yeah, sounds stupid but its true. When you can go to BestBuy and pick up Turbo Tax and a World of Warcraft for Linux then you'll start getting some converts. And running if some 2 bit emulator doesn't count. I'm talking native apps.
Yes, the second important lessons. Sys admins tend to get in the way of project completion:).
As a computer literate electrical engineer I get soooo frustrated with our IT departments lack of understanding of our development process and time frame. Yeah, I know they have their on metrics and have to worry about the marketing folks installing the latest spyware/virus but comeone. Cut us some slack.
Would you sue ATI or NVIDIA for updating their drivers and getting more out of the hardware? Obviously there was a problem where the hardware wasn't being used to its full potential?
How does the shorter battery life make this defective? If the company had sold this as having a much longer battery life then failed to live up to it then that would be a problem. Just because the software (or hardware bug) isn't shutting down a processor doesn't make this a legal issue.
The PS2 essentially included the base hardware of the PS1. Processor included. Since this is the comparison made by the root post I think the point is that MS could have included a full PIII class processor for backwards compatibility.
Taking this approach its far from impossible. Expensive yes, impossible no.
Any law enforcement agency worth a damn would still be able to identify the dots. First off the odds of getting a perfect yellow match are slim and I'm sure there would be some method to make the dye change color if needed.
Last time I checked my heat sinks weren't making any noise:).
A giant hit sink with a big fan is the best way to go. A big heat sink will pull more energy away from the CPU. Put a big slow fan on it and you'll really reduce the noise.
I'm a circuit designer and have made some optimization routines based on genetic algorithms. I've seen exactly what you describe. I use a commercial simulator to simulate each candidate circuit. The genetic algorithms are great at finding problems in the simulator rather than a working circuit...
I also use an external drive. Its actually a combo 1394/usb so I have a choice. One thing I do to ensure the backups is keep the drive at work most of the time. It works well because it also has a backup of my music that I can now access from my laptop at work.
Its always good to keep backups at a separate location. For me I bring the drive home on the weekends and update the backup.
Most people would agree we have a conservative congress in place. If so then an unbiased news outlet should be to the left of the average member of congress.
LOL, more power to you. Personally I'd convert a file to a new format and be done with it. I have friends still using manual typewriters but I wouldn't hold them up as examples...
I think it just needs some new writers. Oh, and it should be stated in their contract that any mention of time travel in a script is grounds for immediate dismissal.
"At least in the USA, land of the free, where you can't do certain things with stuff you've paid for."
Seems your getting exactly what you paid for. You paid for a DRM'd version of the song that would play on iTunes or an iPod. Thats all you payed for. You did not pay for the right to use that song anyway you choose.
Way to sidestep the question. It sounds as if the original author wants his system to just drop in and work. You suggesting that he document and let others fix a problem that shouldn't have occured in the first place.
You missed the word "parties" in your sentence.

So your telling me iTunes changed somehow? I'd call that some data.

I disagree.

Oh, let the flames begin...
Today's small transistors are far from ideal. Leakage currents are a huge concern for portable devices.

Yeah...sure ya would.
I sure hope this was supposed to be a funny reply.

I had to laugh at this.

How many people care if a box runs for a decade? I doubt I would be getting much use out of a 20Mhz CPU right now.
Repeat after me
"I'm a science wenie and need to get out more."
The article doesn't draw conclusions. Its just an interesting set of data.
Ahhhhhhhh!
If I hear one more Ham operator telling me how valuable he is I think I'll scream. Oh wait, I already did that.
All I know is that the horse is a bloddy pulp right now as far as this argument goes.
Hmm, that heat has is causing me to run my air conditioner more often.

Nah, I like the theme.

BS!
