  1. The two, politics and social science, are in a symbiotic relationship. I agree that social science should stop, as it would leave politics to be sane again. But the fact that FaceBook is still a thing tells me that it's not going to stop anytime soon.

  2. They're computers! We leave shit on them all the time, because WHO CARES? Hell, Microsoft announced that with the next update, it's going to pre-hoard 7GB of hard drive space for future updates.

Hard drive space is, basically, virtual space anyway (hard drives stay the same size but they can hold more data every year, actually hard drives are getting smaller), so why would anyone compare hoarding physical things to not purging files that aren't in the way anyway, and may very well be useful later.

There's zero gain in deleting files, unless you're in a crunch for space that's needed for some actual important issue at the moment, or those files are going to cost you something if someone finds them.

  3. Microsoft model:
    buy the (correct) OS
    buy the user licenses
    buy the access licenses
    buy the software
buy the user rights to use software
find ways to get what you need done, done.

    Linux model:
    download the OS
    install/setup/configure the OS
find ways to get what you need done, done.

Functionality of each is irrefutable, but one is a real pain in the ass, the other is just irritating at times.

Dunno... I'm thinking of a bar. You can walk into most all bars as a public citizen, free to drink your fill, and interact with the crowd, and just be there as is. However, if you start getting rowdy, the bar owners can toss you, even ban you. But just any other person that's there at the bar, even the band, can't toss you out. Those common people can call the cops on you, and the cops can come to the bar and remove you, but they cannot ban you from that bar.

Now let's say that there's a political rally at that bar, and it's open to the public. After some time, some people begin yelling unfavorable comments at the politician on stage. If that politician had those people removed because they were saying mean things, then that's one thing. But if those people start being disruptive and causes the management of the bar to decide to toss them (for reasons stated in their 'terms of using the bar'), then that's different.

How is this any different than the issue here? Facebook can ban people from facebook for violation of it's terms of service, but when a political figure creates an account for political reasons, then due to the way politics works, these accounts are to be treated like all other aspects of politics - it's public.

I'm sure that 40,000 people being added will be noticed, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Naturally, the world's population has a tendency to double every 40 years or so. These people need jobs, and I'm sure that Amazon has a wide range of jobs to offer a wide range of people. I don't understand why so many people seem to be against Amazon, and yet so many people also use Amazon.

  6. Today what we call AI is just a sales pitch. These devices only do stuff that you yourself are to lazy to do. And until we're able, as the human race, to make AI (Actual Intelligence) in humans, then how the hell can we make it in machines? We know what Artificial is (we've mastered artificiality), but we don't really know what Intelligence is.

Seems like since we're all walking around with computers in our pockets, capable of amazing things, then why are we still relying on BigData to provide us a website like facebook to use? Why not just replace websites, and the servers that they run on, with local software that only runs on the local device. So, some program runs on my phone, I set it up, enter info about myself, and then it connects and exchanges info directly with other devices (phones). Would require no middle-man to house a server, therefor it would eliminate the possibility someone selling anyone's data or trying to use it to predict the future.

I feel like if someone wrote that software, everyone would use it. One could probably take down a billion dollar business (FaceBook) with less than 200MB of code.
