It's a limitation of the hauppage bttv card and/or v4l interface it complains about certian values. Make no mistake, This is not a setup for videophiles, I usually play them back on a analog tv or in a small window on my workstation. The small size is a bonus too it averages 400MB/hour Which lets me get 2 hours on a cd (having cropped out commercials courtesy of mencoder)
Great now *they* know I skip commercials. I've just made a list somewhere. *ugh*
Using: gcc 2.9.5 avifile0.7-0.7.22 vcr-1.09./configure --with-avifile-libs=/usr/local/lib/avifile0.7 --enable-avifile-0_6 (the --enable-avifile-0_6 is misleading it works with 0.7)
*Whoa*But it did invert (flip over the video) Oh well there's always mplayers "-flip option"
What is your setup? (just curious)

I've given this some thought, and I bet that if you pulled a banner or two from the site and displayed them in a adspace in the selection window they might not mind so much.
Yes, Unfortunately it has to be a dedicated machine, I was trying to use it as an Asterisk PBX simultaneously, but whenever I got a phone call the divx recording would become noticablably choppy. But It is (merely) a PIII 1Ghz w/512MB RAM not very powerful by todays standards.
I call it my "tuxvo" If you combine cron with vcr you can achieve good quality recordings using divx4/5 pretty much off the shelf. Add an nVidia GeForce 2 MX w/TV-out and nVidia's kernel module you can save yourself the money for the scan converter. That is, if you don't mind black bars at the edge of the screen. Otherwise go with the scan converter. But IMHO nothing beats MPlayer for playback. YMMV
I don't know about this technology, but the GSR (Ground Surveillance Radar) systems are superior during foggy/smoggy conditions and at night (with the exception of IR & thermal decection devices. IR has gotten a lot cheaper of late (thermals have not) But expense aside (the cell towers pay for themselves) The fact that one man can track multiple 'blips' from a computer terminal, and binoculars or tailing someone calls for more (albeit more reliable) resources. Also apparently they are developing this to see through walls. I'm sure this will degrade the resolution, but if you can track a 'blip' through a building from a command center hundreds or thousands of miles away, then you have a real advantage over optical systems.
Wrong. I was a Ground Surveillance Systems Operator in the United States Army. Your right the resolution on the radar will not allow you to actually "see" the person, but It turns out you can "hear" the reflected doppler shift and a trained ear can descriminate between A vehicle, pedestrian or even two pedestrians if they have varying amounts of metal on them or have different walking rhythms. So If I had the opportunity to listen to a target walking, for about a minute, then the target embracing someone and walking off would do no good unless they had the same rhythm and the same equipment/belts/zippers and arm swing. I would be able to continue to track them. Of course if the target walked up to someone, embraced them and both targets then started skipping or prancing off in other directions, I would lose them, Or rather I would track both, so really this will only obfuscate you if you can walk up embrace, prance, and repeat. But doing this might draw attention to yourself.
It's a Ketstroke logger that then forwards them on.
How is any form of encryption going to work? You're not the only one to suggest this countermeasure, You were just the first.
It seems the best solution for this would be to see if it running on your machine, and if it is, hook up an alternate input device. From the looks of the product It probably doesn't log voice input (i.e Dragon or ViaVoice) Not that these are robust enough for real work, but they might be for personal email.
Where would you get the DNA to do this? Did they find a Dodo frozen in Siberia as well? You can't just throw darts at a board to determine what you can attempt this with. You need something to start with.
These posts (posts involving lawsuits against hackers) are always riddled with persons who want you to boycott these products, be they games, CDs or Movies. Personally I like games, CDs and Movies. However I don't like the tactics being employed by The RIAA, MPAA, or Vivendi any more than the next slashdotter. What I propose is not a boycott, but to give an equal or greater amount to the EFF Whenever you purchase one of these items. That way Every dollar you contribute to Evil is equally matched by one for Good. So At least your not contributing to the net evil.

Yeah, But you could use the methane to power the process, I seem to remember a pig farmer in North Carolina who did something like that.

I seem to remember their database software doing so. Does that count?
I've looked at this. It is *very* chipset specific.
It does not work with my particular card, or it didn't the two times I looked into it.
I wasn't aware the Hollywood+ card could decode divx output. I will look into it. Thanks for the tip.

It compiles on Debian/testing just fine.
