  1. Issue a ROLLBACK? on Florida Voting Machine Logs Reveal Anomalies · · Score: 1

I'm afraid we've already issued a COMMIT. The database is fucked.

  2. all that and no pictures?? on We Love Katamari Review · · Score: 1

Katamari is more about visuals than listening to some long-winded super-emotional Pitchforkmedia/Livejournal discussion.

  3. I don't think they've ever fixed this. on File Sharing Difficulties Frustrate Tiger Admins · · Score: 0, Troll

I remember v10.1.5, 10.2, 10.3, and a rash of updates in between that all claim to have "addressed SMB issues". When they've supposedly "addressed it" that many times, and we are at 10.4 and it's STILL BROKEN, I think they ought to disable the feature altogether.

Cognac glasses are physical property. CDs and DVDs are intellectual property (according to the RIAA and MPAA). This analogy does not apply.

  8. I'm curious on Is A Catch-All Address Worth The Spam? · · Score: 1

Why does email make it to my mailbox when it DOESN'T have my name in it in the first place?? Maybe if we fix that, we'll cut down on most of the spam.

  9. Re:Worthless! on Calculate When You Are Most Awake · · Score: 4, Interesting

Exactly. I work nights, and therefore I sleep from around 11:am to 7:pm. This just proves that this is either another goofy-ass, slapped-together website, or just a marketing gimmick. Nothing to see here.

  10. Macrovision?? on Nvidia Drivers Enforce Macrovision's Rules · · Score: 2, Interesting

You could pay me half of what they're getting paid and I'll tell you if something stinks -- and I don't need specialized equipment either!

  15. Clear Channel is actually playing Autechre! on Statistically Optimal Music · · Score: 1

I'm listening to it right now and it sounds like I'm between stations on an AM radio. I used to be intrigued by trying to tune into AM radio stations at night to see if I could hear one that was hundreds of miles away, but now I listen to Autechre to get the same effect. There's no discernible melody, but there is 'musical' structure.

This radio station gets me to thinking: since Clear Channel runs the music selection on most radio stations, and by playing the most popular frequencies of 40+ stations you end up with no discernible melody but 'musical' structure, could this be the only way Autechre makes it to the radio?

  16. Monsters From the Id on Your Brain May Have Amazing Powers · · Score: 1

Anyone remeber Forbidden Planet?? This sounds like Dr. Morbius and his ancient Krel technology to me! The problem is when we boost the power so much that we begin to project our unconsciousness into material space. Freaky..

  18. IBM -- possible matchmaker on AMD and IBM Working Together on Future Chips · · Score: 5, Funny

Apple is consulting with IBM about the PPC970. AMD is consulting with IBM about a new fab process. So, with any luck from IBM, there's a chance that representatives from both Apple and AMD will be in the same room together! With any more luck, they'll be opposite genders (then again, that doesn't much matter these days), and they'll hit it off!! (..but we've got to see their offspring.. it will be wonderful!)

  19. Port them to PC on Apple To Charge for Some iApps · · Score: 2

If they want to make any money whatsoever, they'll port all the iApps to PC (and possibly charge more). Since the PC market is at least 20x bigger than the Mac market, if they (say) sell iApps to 5% of the PC market, they'll double their installed user base! That will be a shitload of money, and it will be doubly stupid if they don't do it.

  20. All they offer is a VHS copy on "Decasia": The Beauty of Film Decay · · Score: 5, Insightful

I know it would defeat the whole point of the video, but I'd like it in DVD format. You don't want your own copy of this film to end up like all the ones it's portraying, do you?

  22. widescreen just chops off the top & bottom!!! on DVD Review: Back to the Future Trilogy (Widescreen) · · Score: 1

I heard a rumor once (from a Wal-Mart employee) that I shouldn't buy the widescreen version of a movie because it's missing the top & bottom of the picture. At the time I ignored him (I knew better), but now! My gawd, HE'S RIGHT! (in this case at least) What the hell happened to the whole "DVDs are made in widescreen to reflect the artist's true representation of the movie since it was originally shot in widescreen??"
