hey.
when you start a project on sourceforge you get shell (ssh) access along with storage and web space. i would assume that they have gcc and other stuff there. it might be worth it to look into this. i dont know if you have to start a project in order to get shell access. i just started using it after i started one.
most people dont realize this, but alot of people here use computers because of microsoft. it was bill's mission to put a pc in every home, and this introduced alot of us to computers. alot of these people realized that there was more that could be done with them, and that is where i would think alot of the/. crowd comes from.
his mission should have been to put a pc inevery home and keep unix out of every home.
you can use this programming drive simularly. after these kids get tired of making buttons in vb, the ones that are interested will want to get more out of their computers. they may read about linux in some magazine and see some screen shots of it on the net.... this is where the grass roots campaign comes in. local LUGs will be there to support the curious. this will leave microsoft with those satisfied by the flashey slow graphics vb can provide. this is sort of a darwinistic approach, but it is how i think it will go.
old people? the president and vice president started running on the same ticket in the 1800's. i dont think we have people old enough to get confused. to be old enought to get confused you would have had to vote in the 1800's therefor you would be at least 120... although if there is someone that old there is a good chance they live in florida.
i still believe in being held accountable for your actions. while this might not heralded by the democrates, i think they should be held responseable for their lazyness.
you cannot make cause/effect inferences on statistical data like these. this is basic statistics
as for a "badly designed ballot". if this is the cause for the high number of votes for buchanan-do you really want people two lazy to read the ballot deciding the fate of the country?
is that trying to imply that the 5% will come from bush? i would think that nader supporters would come from the democratic party and browne supporters would come from the republican party.
They are making huge profits, and very little of that profit goes to research.
actually you would be surprised at how much money is spent on research. i know that this isn't what political activistis would want you to believe. i dont know what expirence you speak from(the kids in the hall isn't right up there with peer reviewed journals in my book), but 9/10 drugs investigated don't make it. if i remember correctly 20-30 percent of the revenue is dumped back into research
alot of the rest of the money is spent on drug characterization and testing which is required to get fdc approval.
i got this info while i was working on my thesis for protein purification
another thing people don't realize is that pharmaceutical companies have the right to develop what ever they want-(as long as its not prohibited by regulations). they are a buisness controlled by stockholders with an obligation to stockholders. if you want them to change what they do, you need to reduce the market. when there are alot of old people who want erections and are willing to pay for it then you need to target them with your banter, not the companies making the product. these are sociological issues that the pharmaceutical industry is responding to. dont blame the symptom, blame the disease.
One of the benefits of prosperity and reward for hard work is the freedom to indulge ourselves in whatever makes us happy.
apathy like this is fine until the government takes away your rights while your not paying attention. then you have to do what ever makes the person in charge happy. if you want to concern yourself with reading the tabloids and vote democrate or republican like your parents do and theirs before them that is your right. i defend your right to be a fool-even if it leads to others taking away that right in the future.
Over Thirty thousand people are successfully treated every week using this treatment
jello is more informed that you give him credit.
there are several different treatements being implemented for aids-yet there is no know cure. ie if you have aids you can treat the symptoms, but you still have aids.
it goes something like this:
i heard jello biafra at the state location.
it was a rockin' show.
jello biafra really rocked the haouse
jello biafra

martyr ;
1.One who chooses to suffer death rather than renounce religious principles.
2.One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle.
3.
a.One who endures great suffering: a martyr to arthritis.
b.One who makes a great show of suffering in order to arouse sympathy.
so by this defination i wouldnt call missing 2 days of school a great sacrifice-unless it was meatloaf day.
i think the previous poster was saying that being burned at the steak is a little greater sacrafice than missing 2 days of school, and calling the kid a martyr belittles the contribution of other martyrs. similar in the way that katz comparied this kid to washington.
But not all inquiries are welcome. The government of Singapore asked if it could control web content; the Chinese authorities
made a similar request. Whitelaw refused. Helping to track criminals was one thing; helping regimes find human rights activists quite another.
i would like to see the book where he draws the line between what is criminal and what isn't. I think that most of us would agree that child pornography is bad. This is pretty straight forward, but where does he draw the line on idealistic issues?
i think the logic could look something like this...
if ms was a monopoly how could competition have risen? ie if they had total control of the market how could this other operating system be posing a threat now (without any govt intervention).
just a thought.
something the article should mention. before you go out and start buying borax and playing with it know this:
borax is a diarrhetic
the concentrations used to make this slime can leave a residue on your hand strong enough to give you the green apple spaltters for a day or so. so be careful.

What about performance compared to a Linux box running on a P3 Intel box? Where the software is free mind you.
why not just put ppc linux on the mac hardware and use whats already out there for linux: apache/php/postgresql/etc?

so where did the water go? even if its not just under the surface... it has to be somewhere

if you are posting on slashdot i dont expect perfect grammar and spelling. if you are sending a letter to the ftc to point out the down side of utica:
Please use a spell checker (ispell) and proof read it for grammar errors.

That is why a particular cannot license cannot be exempted without encouraging one over another.
