schizophrenia - 1912, from Ger. Schizophrenie, coined by E. Bleuler, 1910, from Gk. skhizein "to split" + phren "mind." Slang shortening schizo first attested 1920s as an adj., 1945 as a noun.

I have a rather bleak view of the disease. The medications work... no doubt. But they may work for 6 months, a year, two years, five years, but eventually, and I don't know the medical resons, people build resistance to them, their condition changes or their bodies will lash out with reactions to the antipsychotic drugs... this could appear as mood changes, exhaustion or they return to their old behaviour.

My point is that even if somebody is "taking their meds", they can still go into a psychotic episode. Many times they won't want to admit themselves to the hospital, and as long as they're not considered a danger, nobody can force them there... nor can they stop them from signing themselves out.

Finally, and this is something subtle... people who have the disease and get help don't generally "see that they had a problem"... the lines between sanity and delusion are blurred, and memories of delusions are just as real as the delusions themselves.

So if the neighbours were using reflections to monitor their mind, when they go on their meds, the neighbours have either stopped or they're not doing anything with the information anymore... the psychiatrist will tell the patient "not to talk about that stuff", and if they're good, they won't.

There is no "normal" and the disease never goes away. Half the horror can be trying to convince the person that you're not a nazi robot sent to monitor their mind and the hospital is really there to help them... and you'll have to relive those experiences every few years as they relapse and the "meds" need to be figured out all over again.

I guess too that it all depends on the personality of the individual and the severity of their disease, but like I said... I have a rather bleak view.

Why are people so nasty about cyclists?

It's a shame that driving is a privilige, but while the city is taxed to build roads to handle the volume of traffic from mostly empty privately owned vehicles, cyclists have to fight for a spot on the road.

In many areas, the sensors in the road don't even detect cyclists and the signals won't change. You have to get off your bike to hit the pedestrian button to get the light to change.

I've been yelled at and honked off the road in many places for riding with the flow of traffic. Cyclists often have to asert themselves on the road because yielding outside the lane of traffic forfeits their rights on the road. This and it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk.

As for turning on the curb lane of traffic. How did the motorists get ahead of the cyclist? Passing in the same lane? Was it done safely? Was it necessary?

Have you ever waited behind a bicycle and waitied for them to go before turning?

When I drive, I always check my shoulder for psychotic cyclists, and when I cycle, I tend to wait for the first car to make its move... depending on the circumstances, I might jump across the lane and do a wide run-about. Hey, what would you do if motorists always zipped past you and stopped to make a turn?

IMHO, the best solution for cycling is extra-wide curb/kerb lanes... not cycling lanes, just wide curb lanes. They're good to keep traffic moving when cars are stranded too, and they keep motorists out of the "get in your F*ing bicycle lane!" mindset.

The only people who matter are the advertisers. They're the true customers of T.V.

Viewers control T.V. only through a distant and hardly measurable relationship between network's profits from ad-space, which might, just barely, be influenced by viewer's tendencies to purchase corporate brands when they've seen them on T.V.

So it is entirely possible that nobody likes it, and the advertisers perceive it to be a set of palatable stories to wrap around their corporate messages.
