Yep. Classic Business Software Alliance warped logic: every pirated item = lost sales i.e. poor student with Gigs and Gigs of MP3 would have bought each and every one of those albums at the full price of $16.99. Riight.

My $0.02 will always be worth more than your 0.02, so :P

Suprised this didn't make the news (surfaced in early April). I've seen both the ASCII text and a 3B ZIP of GIF/JPG scannned off a printed copy.

Seems it's an early revision of the script, as some scenes from the trailers don't appear or an elaborate fanscript simulation: who would print some 100 pages, then scan them back in, them run them thru OCR.

Ha, we should be so lucky. In the worst part it's TWO lanes, swerving left and right, and ramps on BOTH sides.

The Metropolitan highway (A.40) was meant as a temporary measure until a better highway was built. Still waiting ...

And for those of you flying in/out of Montreal, they're phasing out all passenger flights to Mirabel Airport (YMX) and diverting them to Dorval(YUL) so you will all have to go thru the dreaded 40/15 interchange to get downtown. Good luck.

Lots of the new mobos come with the Promise RAID IDE onboard. It's limited to mirroring and striping but for the extra $10-$20 it's worth getting, plus drives are cheap.

I can't affort those $2000 DLT tapes or to spend many hours feeding 10-20 CDRW to do backups, this is the most convenient solution.

  16. Let's take it one step further on Usenet Encoding: yEnc · · Score: 2
We just saved about 30% bandwith with yEnc. Let's implement PARchive redundancy (reed-solomon) right in the protocol. Sure, we're back to the original size, but all that'd be needed is 70% of any parts of the usenet post to successfully reconstruct the original file, so the 30% is not wasted.

My ISP (cable) has a quite short retention period in the binary newsgroups (it's like they do it on purpose!) and many files are broken from missing multiparts. Integrating yEnc and PAR would solve that problem once and for all.
