    This has already happened, in the IRC scene, some whole IP blocks sometimes get banned for excess 'lamerz' coming from them. Flamewars ensue, eventually the ban gets lifted, rinse, repeat.

    Also, some of the OpenNAP servers out there are by invitation only, so yes P2P is changing.

    They better get LOTS AND LOTS of IP addies, because word will get around about which users distribute corrupt file and folks are going to publish web pages listing the user IDs and IP address blocks disseminating corrupt files. Also, it's not that difficult to listen to the first 30s of a partial download--if it's junk, download cancelled, user banned, nice try.

    AnimeNewsNetwork: Neither DVD release is listed on the any of the major retailers websites yet (Amazon.com does have a page for the DVDs (and has for a long time), that lists them as "The studio is currently not producing this title on DVD."

    BTW: Last year's TurboTax Canadian product activation was keyed on the partition's Volume Serial Number (easily changeable with SysInternal's VolumeID

    Once again, moron webmaster tries to prevent 'image theft'.

    The easiest thing to workaround. Right-click desired image, keep mouse button pressed, dismiss warning dialog with SPACE. Menu appears.

    The green tint in The Matrix is on purpose. On the scenes 'outside' the matrix (on the good ship Nebuchedanezzersp? ) aren't off.

    Did a histogram on the subtitle word 'Mange'. as inserted by the DVD player): R:141 G:137 B:126 -- Almost perfect.
    The whole scene is skewed: R:141 G:119 B:63.
    Worse is Haku's (boy on the right) shirt, supposed to be white: R:244 G:183 B:136

    This looks like the white balance was pushed all the way to 6000K

    Hmm, two years ago it was a light-sensitive coating that opacified after multiple playbacks.

    I'd like to be able to view some of the players are they are playing their games. Perhaps some sort of combined passive telnet + IRC so other viewers can comment, chat while watching. No kibitzing obviously, musn't disturb the participants.

    Personally, I read RXC's column with a huge grain of salt and tongue firmly in cheek with several ;-) thrown in for good measure.

    Unfortunately, law enforcement officials don't have a sense of humor. IANAL, but I believe he is inciting to commit a crime, and incitement to (food) riot too. OTOH, it would be a great publicity stunt to get arrested.

    There is a good chance his next column will be entitled:

    Knock Knock
    A friendly visit from the nice folks at the FBI
    or even
    Do not pass Go, Do not collect $200

    The second feature is that the coating is hydrophilic, meaning that when rain hits the glass, it doesn't form droplets.

    That would be a hydrophobic coating. Hydrophilic attracts moisture.

    And so they have theire butts covered: it means that the Winamp distribution will no longer come with the IN_MP3.DLL plugin. I expect future versions will have an (optional) 75 download charge for IN_MP3.DLL.

    Of course, if you already have the plugin, no need to pay for it again -- and it could make use of the Windows Media Player MP3 codecs (paid for by your Windows XP license).

    This is old news, but worth mentioning... Athlon XPs (Thunderbirds) are also being deceptively marketed:
    • Athlon XP 1600+ == 1.4GHz
    • Athlon XP 1800+ == 1.6GHz
    And so on

    Of course when I bought my PC last November, I was sold a "1.6GHz" system with (you guessed it) an XP 1600+.

    As for performance, yes, this CPU rocks, no deception implied here.
