Especially since call center jobs are being moved to India as fast as you can count them.
One thing that at least one major telemarketer/outsourcer in the US does this is to use VOIP from India to the US, registering US numbers for the foreign IP-phone system. This, I believe, would not allow the telemarketing to work after the DNC is in place.
The thing to remember is when you are talking to either an outsourcer or telemarketer with a US number, it does not mean that they are actually in the US.
This puts me into a minority of anime viewers, but I generally prefer the dubs over subs based solely on my ability to see what is going on without have to read the dialouge. However, there is one notable exception... Inu Yasha is perhaps the worst dubbing in anime. I bought the series based on the advise of my local Sam Goody salesperson. This person sees all of the series that I buy and generally makes good suggestions as to titles I will like. I purchased Inu Yasha based on his reccomendation and I throughorly enjoy the series. However, I had to turn off the english track and put up the subs because the english track was so poorly translated and acted. And at 3 episodes per disc, Inu Yasha was going to get expensive. I have since bought the fansubed Hong Kong imports and I really enjoy it. The cost for the entire first season was about the same as three discs of teh American release.
To answer the question, however, I would call some of the "Subs rule, Dubs suck" anime freaks elitist and just trying to stand out as original. It is my ever humble opinion that sometimes the translations for dubs tends to get the story across better than the subs. This, of course, is not always the case; I guess every rule needs it's exception. I know many fanatic anime viewers who refuse to watch any series in English, and I know one or two who only watch w/ subs. I think that the culture began with the fansubs that were the only way someone who does not speak Japanese could enjoy a show. The viewing public got used to the subs and think that the "Official" translations by the importing production houses were lacking. I think that swearing may have had something to do with this as well, as fansubs often tend to use harsher language than really was said or meant. When someone has seen the same show fansubbed many times and the dub does not use the same level of gutter language, the viewer thinks that it was toned down for it's US release.
All that aside, I highly reccomend that when you watch a new show, try it both ways. Look for the way that suits the show the best and then watch the entire series that way.
The real danger to Southern Utahns were to those living in Moab Utah. Moab had a double dose of radiation. The mines that yeilded the Uranium were found in the area around Moab, as well as a lot of fallout sickness. Families were striken with cancers of all sorts as well as just early deaths wthout attribution. The entire Souther part of Utah was in teh fallout zone, but Moab particularly. People in Northern Az as well as the rest of the four corners areas were all effected.
The company I work for has rolled out Windows 2K on all of their machines as a standard. This works for a number of reasons. 1. The ability to have a ghostable image available to push on to the machines as people move desks or revolve to other jobs. 2. Ability of administation to lock down the machines so the wannabe k1dd1ez cannot destroy the OS 3. Ability of support drones to have a single knowledgebase with which to "support" our problems.
There is something to be said for standardization of software across a call center's floor. All of our applications are either in-house, written for Win32, or browser based. As luck would have it I can do 99% of my job using Phoenix instead of IE, however there are a few apps that only work in IE.
At home I use both Win2K and Linux. The Win2K box gets most of my time as it is my game box in addition to having the best kit installed in it. The Linux box acts as router and firewall and crunches Seti@home units. I play with it to try to learn Linux, but all day long I am on Win32. Given a few months of constant use I am sure that I would switch over to Open Source, as has happened with my browsing, but for now I will stick with Win32. Also I like to play Blizzard games, which I have heard do not work well with WINE etc.
In the notes included with your book Steppe you stated that you were sneaking a history lesson past your editors. And in the Bio of a Space Tyrant there is quite a lot of history that can be extrapolated about the United States. Do you try to give a lesson in history with all of your work? I cannot find it in the Mode series, but it has been quite some time since I read those books.
While not defending Brian in any way, likely he is required to save the account and has a quota of account cancelations that he must not allow to happen. This seems to be common in the customer service industry. In the telephone service industry it is all too common to require unreasonable demands of the reps in saving sales or making certain qoutas of performance that are driven soley by the consumer. Mr. Katz met, more than likely, a rep who dislikes his position and is paid extremly poorly (AOL has their phone center in Utah, a state known for it's poor pay and a number of telemarketing firms) who is in danger of running afoul of the system at his place of employ. While none of this excuses poor manners on the part of Brian, it may go a way to explaining his attitude.
I also have sent emails to my congressmen. Thus far I have recieved a form letter from onr of my Reps and nothing at all from Orin Hatch, my Senator. My coorespondence with them was consistant in decrying the attacks, but asking that they not activly remove freedoms from us as a result of the attacks. While my emails have been effectivly ignored I intend to send letters that are word for word to my emails just to see what the result becomes. I do know that Orin Hatch seems to respond better to letters than email.
Since reopening the Beeb ni h2g2 is going to moderate away all non-english postings. They are doing this because the moderators only speak english. This will damage the user base in Germany where they have a decent sized following. The Beeb is making a number of researchers mad and many have left. The ones who remain are not happy with the moderation system. Another way to get something moderated is to post a URL that is not on BBC/h2g2. I have already had my own posts moderated in this manner.
Taco, E2 is not as cool as h2g2, sorry but it is true... Even with the moderation I will take the Guide over E2.

As a long time researcher for the Guide I can elaborate a bit. H2G2 is meant to be the real life Guide from the books, but based on the internet rather than Sub Etha. A lot of people are writing about what they know. I have written a few articles that are considered to be part of the "Official" guide as edited entries. I wrote about my home state (Utah) and life in Utah. This was then edited by paid and unpaid staff and considered for official status. You can however write about anything that you like, fiction or fact. It has a robust database behind it that lets many people be logged in at a given time and serves the content that you want to see. It has customisable skins and settings. There is a large community behind it as well with virtual realities and minor role playing. I hope for the best and await the re-opening with baited anticipation.
This method of defense against a SYN flood is a feature implemented by the PIX firewall. The feature is called Floodguard, and is in all PIX IOS versions beyond 4.2(x). The biggest drawback is that the PIX sits behind a router that may or may not be vunerable to this attack.
They seem cute but one of the biggest problems I have with my palm is that the screen is not big enough. A larger format screen would allow more info to be viewd at once. I use it to read books on flights as it is eaiser to hang on to. It would be nice if the LCD was perhaps longer. Cutting the screen by 25% will make it much more diffucult to read. IMHO always.
With your business venture, The Digital Village/H2G2, you have created a popular community. It has been stated on H2G2 that you are planning on making an Earth Edition of the HHGTTG. Will this be an implimentation of the WAP protocol on WAP enabled phones only, or will you be marketing an actual product?
As former support agent for an online bill payment FI, I have seen some of the major problems with some of the payment forms. Some payments are cut as checks and mailed out to the payees. Others are made as an electronic payment to the payee. Ironicaly it seems that the EFT (electronic funds transfer) transactions are the one that are most pron to problems. You will make a payment that might get mis-applied to a different account or lost or something. You will then be required by the payee to submit proof of payment. This usually means that you have to show a front and back copy of a canceled check. When the payment is made by EFT this is, of course, impossible. A claim is then required to be submitted to the EFT originator. A claim agent will get the EFT transaction number and fax it to the payee. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to see where the funds were mis-applied. Most of the time those companies that accept EFT payments are able to fix any problems fairly quickly, but when an EFT is made that consists of thousands of payments all at one time, some fall through the cracks. The online banking industry is getting better all the time but it still needs some work. More than once the only way to get your payment to certain people is to mail it like times of old. Once industries start to have better accountability of their online payments the system will function better. I do know some people that only use online payment for all bills. They seem to be very happy with the current services.
When looking through all the interesting files here I was denied access to the file on author Jack London. One wonders what he must have done to still have his file sealed.
I use one of these at work all day long. I have the four port version w/ two workstations running on it. I have had no reliability issues with it for over a year now. The operation is very simple, you have one push button that scrolls through your workstations. There are dip switches on the back that offer some programming options. You can also use both AT style plugs with a serial mouse or ps/2 connectors on the same box. I switch back and forth quite often during the work day and have never had a fault excepting the caps lock etc. You sometime have to hit the caps key a couple of time to clear the problem.
Other online message forums have been doing this for a while. http://www.h2g2.com The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, will remove some offensive comments if asked to do so by the online community that makes up h2g2. Normaly I would dissagree about this practice, however I agreed to the TOS that came along with the site. Because of my agreement not to post offensive comments I do not argue the decision for moderation.
This kind of system would be great in helping to minimize the damage to life and property in the tornado ravaged areas of the Midwest. Having recently wittnesing a tornado for the first time (In downtown SLC no less) I have a new interest in tech like this.
Or the phase conjugate tracking system.

Knight deflating Kent was the best part of that film.
No, There still is the as yet unaired "Who Wants to Marry a Middle Aged Producer?" or "When Shopping Carts Attack!: The Wallmart Files".
The hardcore porn will have a little time before it gets plastered over Fox.
