Communism dosen't work because it is against nature. Howso you might ask, well, every animal has a strong survival instinct, and the specices of animals we belong to are no exception. It's the survival instinct that tells us to grab all we can while we can, because in case of hunger, illness etc. you'll need it. Some people call this natual instinct greed. This instinct is stronger on some people. It is also due to this instinct, that we owe most of our development as a specices, because invention is based on making it easier for yourself, thus better chance of survival. You can see this instinct very much if you watch children play, because they have it very strongly, and have not yet learned to master it. For a civilization to grow, you have to keep your survival instinct in check, or else you're back to the jungle.

So, how can someone in their right minds come up with a system, that disables the very natural survical instinct of the human race and think it will work?!? It is exactly as the parent post said, head-in-the-clouds theoretical nonsense that dosen't actually work in the real world.

But it can be used as a tool to keep survival instinct in check, much like religion was developed for this purpose so that civilization may grow. Communism is just another religion, and proves that no religious system was ment to be a political system, but more guidelines to keep greed at a level where it wouldn't hurt the development of civilization too much.

Pure capitalism the way it is turning in the western world, is hurting the futher development of civilization, and will take us back to the jungle eventually, if nothing is being done.

Developers need Admin rights, if you insist on otherwise they start to be a burden, much like concrete shoes.

Instead, you operate with 3 different environments:

    -Development
    -Staging
    -Production

Developers have full admin access to the Development environment only. When an application is finished, they release it to staging, which is where the Sysadms take over and follow the documentation supplied by the developers to install it. If it dosen't work, it goes back to development.

When it works, you release it for testing, still within the staging environment. If testing shows any errors, it goes back to development. When finally tested without errors, you release it to production, including the original documentation supplied by the developers, which is modified by the SysAdms during testing.

That way, you have a fully documented application that you can even easily outsource if you don't want to run production yourself.

The reason why you got modded down, is because American pride precedes humor, so making fun of pride related issues is unamerican and will get you modded as Troll or Flamebait, because the majority of slashdotters are American.

In Europe, your joke would be a much larger success, Americans simply don't understand that kind of humor.

Seriously, the real question is if Apple is going to pull off switching it's core customerbase at a critical time.

The recent years of success has mainly been powered by word of mouth advertising from die hard Mac fans, and most of them got so pissed by this that they are dropping their support of Apple, buying a PC and wait for someone to pirate Mac OS X to run on their new Dell. If they want to run Mac OS X at all.

People buy brands mostly of ideological reasons, and to pull a stunt like this is like pissing your regular customers on their backs. It would be the same as if Nike said that these cheapass Wallmart shoes are much better than ours, in fact all the stories about our products superiority we just made up, and from now on we will just relabel Wallmart shoes and stick them inside a Nike shoecase.

The Mac mini internals looks like it's a iBook without internal screen put in a different box.

I bought an iBook last year, and the powersupply is a standard switchmode one, that can run on 110-220v, with a replaceable plug that connects to the rest of the powersupply adapter. That way, apple can manufacture one powersupply for all countries and just replace the plug module.

So my guess will be that you can do this without any problems, you might be so lucky that the plug module from an iBook powersupply works, so that you just have to buy one of them as a spare part to have your system working like it was made for your country. :-)
