I use copious amounts of coffee to off set lag, but if I'm faced with serious enduring lag I meditate ( I use a magic square with 64 squares and a number of relationships... I tried transendental meditation but it just didn't do it for me... the idea behind meditation is to engage the mind on all levels )Best wishes to the NASA crew... I'd be curious to know if there's a prefered way they deal with lag.

Think the pyramids, think Stonehenge... we as a species and as respective cultures have always had inklings to write our name large, to create works the scale of which rivals the heavens. Sure it's science but it's also the beginning of a hopefully universal effort on the part of all the peoples of the world to come together...sounds mary poppinish but still...we could of course feed the hungry
It may be a sustainable argument to group geeks as information retrevialists who fair best and favour alphanumeric representations. If geeks tend to excell at programming tasks it suggests their skill set is honed to alphnumeric scripting. Perhaps the greater number of new internet users are more graphically orientated and prefer to manipulate data as images. It may be the internet is undergoing the early stages of a transformation that will see information predominantly represented graphically. The Power Point users may be in the ascendency and the internet as geeks developed it will become a antedated layer wherein alphanumeric data suffers from being used by a minority.

The problem is, there are so many things you can't say. If you said them all you'd have no time left for your real work. You'd have to turn into Noam Chomsky.
Chomsky's brilliant work "The Manufacturing of Consent" is a look at the influence of monopolistic media outlets on our culture. It's a two tape video and usually available from a well stocked public library. It's a nice fit for furthering the ideas presented in this story.

Its sad, because I had always thought computer people always look for the best way to do things. Unfortunately, computer people are just like everyone else, and all too willing to accept the status quo.
Remember the proprietory wars of the 80's when the standard was being born. There's a high degree of conservatism coming from the status quo inhibiting radical change because the entire industry has to climb on board to make any radical change viable. The market requires a standard that allows consumers to buy without having to make choices they're not informed enough to make.

OK I'll bite how did Michaelangelo sell his great works centuries after his death? Is it some sort of payoff from God for the work on the chapel?
