I'm not sure if ethanol is a good idea or not, but...
I like the idea of having alternate fuels around as a hedge agains oil volatility. The US *should be* developing any domestic alternatives it can, as well as improving conservation, to gain energy independence.
Who doesn't spend an hour configuring a brand new machine? XP needs serious tweaks on install by default anyway. That is unless you want to be owned in 5 minutes.
Grub has been the best bootloader, but unfortunately, it is fugly and has stagnated.
Apparently it has been undergoing an ill-advised complete rewrite for the last several years. Why couldn't they just have refactored?
Wouldn't it be nice to have a grub with nice graphics, a real menu system, and all the bug fixes from the last several years in one release? Might even be as cool as XOSL was 10 years ago. But instead we get nothin' but vapor. It's sad.
Windows does let you install things easily, but it also comes with the part-time job of keeping it secure, which can easily blow several hours a week. That's not including the almost full day to get it secure in the first place.
Right ... and PPC chips were very cheap already because of their simplicity. The difference in price is probably small indeed.
Flashblock extension for firefox ...
The best of both worlds.
What??!!?
98 --> 2000 definitely was a 2039% upgrade.
It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.
You must be new around here.
Yonah's not a "64 bit" chip. Although I hope they use EFI, it's not a given since all the demos and literature had an antique bios.
Right. That's why I mentioned that various alternatives should be developed. There's not a single solution to the energy problem, unfortunately.
It may be that sugarcane doesn't grow as well as corn in Iowa. I'm not sure but maybe the US isn't tropical enough.
Oh, I forgot to mention when I was in Brazil I noticed they have been doing this for years... making fuel from surgarcane or something like that.
I don't know the specifics, but one time my taxi filled up with alcohol or ethanol at the local Shell station, and it's pretty common.

I thought there was no 1080p, only 1080i. Idiots designing the spec, I suppose.
what is a freeview decoder?
My Sony was the worst, not only do they install all this crap too, but they took up 25% of the disk for a "recovery" partition.
It lasted about 3 days before I nuked it. Sheesh.

Annoying, but not the end of the world.
Yes. Princes? are you thinking of Saudi Arabia?
Don't forget EFI, either.
Most modern cars defeat this capability on purpose. Bastards.
If you run linux, but run games in windows, this isn't a viable choice.

Remember to remove any spaces slashdot puts in. It's not a bad book. I learned a lot even if it was a bit dry at times.
Puritanality
Just did using gimp on XP. Didn't encounter any problems. What was supposed to happen?
Nah, I don't agree.
In general it's true they shouldn't reward the pirates, but SP2 is such a necesity they should have made a one time exception.
The armies of windows zombies are everyone's problem, even if you use a mac or linux.
Ripping my DVD collection ate up 500 gigs like candy. Thank god I don't have Netflix!!
